My wife and I are vacationing in Hawai'i for the first time. We decided to do Oahu first and on our first morning were craving a good comfort food-like breakfast. A simple Google search brought up Moke's as the first result. I read one review and was sold.
First let's the get negatives out of the way (because there is really only one) Parking, felt that during busy times it would be a bit difficult esp since metered. But that was the only thing that was a negative and not even enough to warrant a deduction on stars (because for a restaurant the only factors that affect the stars for me is the food and service). ALSO DO NOT PARK ACROSS THE STREET AT THE SHOPPING CENTER because they tow... Signs up in the restaurant also warn you.
Now the good: Coffee, custom blended 40% Hawaiian blend, 20% Waialua estate, 20% Maui red. Great aroma, a little bitter which I loved. I like coffees bittersweet, so at first I felt I ruined it with 3 sugars, I recommend 2 to get a great aftertaste. Lilikoi'i pancakes, a def must try. The pancakes are very filling, and they use their own sauce that was on the sweeter side but was quite tasty. It's got a passion fruit base. Grilled honey biscuit with butter. Can't really say much about this other than it was delicious. Dip in the Lilikoi'i sauce for an addition of a little tang. Stuffed hash brown. Essentially an omelet but instead of the egg its in crispy hash. I had an over easy egg thrown in top which went perfectly with it. I went with the chili omelet as the stuffing. The filling was great, included chili, green onions and cheddar. It was even better with Tobasco on top. It comes with toast, I got the French baguette which came dripping with butter, just the way I like it. Threw some of the main dish on the baguette.
Service was great, fast and very friendly.
Overall tht whole meal cost us 33.40. you get one free refill with each coffee, def worth it.
Would def recommend this cute little restaurant to others.
Just bring a healthy appetite though because the food was heavy and too good not to finish. At the end we kinda wished it they had called it Moke's breakfast in bed cuz we were ready to go...
Read moreIf you're in Kailua and looking for a breakfast experience that combines the best of local flavors and classic breakfast fare, Moke's Bread & Breakfast should be on your radar. Nestled in the heart of Kailua, this cozy establishment offers a delightful and homely atmosphere that makes you feel like part of the 'ohana (family) as soon as you walk in.
The star attraction here is undoubtedly the lilikoi pancakes—fluffy, buttery pancakes topped with a bright, tangy passionfruit sauce that will make you question why you ever settled for plain old maple syrup. If pancakes aren't your thing, fret not; the menu offers a wide range of choices, from hearty omelettes packed with local ingredients to the satisfying loco moco.
Portion sizes are generous, ensuring that you won't leave hungry. The freshness of the ingredients is evident in every bite, and it's clear that the kitchen pays attention to detail. Vegetarians and gluten-free diners will also find options here, making it a versatile choice for groups.
Service is another area where Moke's shines. Staff are warm and welcoming, making the experience feel more like a family gathering than a restaurant visit. Even during busy periods, they manage to keep things moving efficiently while maintaining their friendly demeanor.
That being said, the popularity of Moke's can also be a drawback. Wait times, especially on weekends or holidays, can be quite long, so be prepared for that. While the restaurant has done its best to create a cozy atmosphere, the dining space is relatively small, and it can get noisy when full.
Overall, Moke's Bread & Breakfast provides a satisfying and authentically Hawaiian dining experience. Despite the potential for long waits and a crowded dining area, the outstanding food and exceptional service make it a must-visit when...
Read moreIt's Mother's Day; we woke up a little later and took a risk because I didn't know if they took reservations or not. The host was up front about an hour wait, it took a little longer. I felt bad; I watched a group who had departed after putting their name in knowing the wait time and thinking they had time come back. They threw a fit because their name had been called, they weren't there, two to three other parties were seated, then they returned and wanted to be seated. People be people.
My son and I got seated. The host provided a muffin the help stave off the hunger. Huzzah! Casey was our server. He showed up quickly and took our order. They were running behind. They had two 8-tops and a 6-top plus everyone else. It happens. He took our order; was quick to fill up our drinks, even brought my son a new OJ when the food arrived since my son spent the time mimicking my coffee drinking with his OJ. Casey was attentive and helpful having us on top of his party of 8 and everything else he was dealing with. It was actually a nice break. I watched a table angry about the length of time their food took and were honestly quite rude. The staff took it in stride and rose above it. That's the restaurant biz on a holiday, folks; even in general.
The food was delicious. Our server was fantastic. The staff was supportive; even when I needed a napkin for my own issues before we got seated. I praise them for their availability and support and taking care of people. They...
