While the golf course itself is decent, the problem is with the way it's managed, or mismanaged. And, my advice: if you are considering booking an afternoon tee time here, DON'T. You will likely be disappointed. Let me explain. Because this golf course lies in a questionable neighborhood, they take in all the flags from the greens each night so they don't get stolen. Which would be fine, except they do it so damn early, at least an hour before sunset. On the day we played, a staff member pulled the flag from the 16th hole well before 5 p.m. while we were shooting. Minutes before, he yelled at us that we better get moving. If he understood golf, he would have noticed the group 150 yards ahead of us, meaning we couldn't hit. We also played 17 and 18 without flags, meaning we needed to guess where the greens were on each of these uphill holes. What really annoyed us was that most of the round was spent playing behind a sixsome. We would have been done by 4 p.m. had we not spent so much time waiting behind this group. When I complained to the pro shop afterwards, I got a shrug. I assume the locals can do whatever they want on this course. And, obviously, the staff do what they want too, removing all the pins well before daylight, even though the course is usually jammed with golfers. My requests for a refund have fallen on deaf ears. So, be warned. Only play here in the morning. And if you get behind a sixsome, well, that's how they do things at...
Read moreTook a group of Members to Maui for a 4-day Pro-Am at the end of October (2019) and had made a plan of two days of golf and a day off / beach day rotation, for our 9-day trip. One of the players in our group had limited experience with playing on Bermuda grass, so instead of a trip to COSTCO for our weekly supplies, we ventured up to Pukalani Country Club. In the 12 or so golf trips that I have made to Maui over the last 2 1/2 decades, I had not player here and much to my surprise, it was an extremely enjoyable course. The fairways are tree lined, but with generous landing areas for the mid to higher handicap. There is a great mix of short, medium and long holes, which ran in a variety of directions along the lower slopes of Haleakala. Agronomy isn't that of the Kapalua or Wailea courses, but in my humble opinion, there only 1 1/2 *'s below those much more expensive venues. The views of the valley are spectacular and the hospitality of Ron and the rest of the staff was better than at some of the other courses on the island. Take a chance, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Read moreSo much potential here. They need step out on a little faith, spend some money on an all new Maintenance Facility, some decent equipment, a good Superintendent, updated irrigation system, Clubhouse renovations, serious updates to Bakery or whatever it is. Then some raises across the board for staff, and boom this place is competing for one of the best Golfing Experiences on the Islands. Decent layout, but too many close houses. Cut back on Cart Traffic too. Incredible Views and beautiful scenery. Get serious about preserving the natural island settings. Get rid of the cheap plants trucked in from Lowe’s and buy some decent Native Plants from a small local grower. Simply put - spend some money and you will make it back in increased fees. Goal should be to cut back 25% in rounds per day, but raise the fees up enough to make it back and then some. This is very possible. Love this course & want to see it sing like I...
