Take the recent batch of 1 star reviews with a major grain of salt, my suspicion is that we're walking into some kind of private dispute or factionalism that's being taken public and has nothing to do with us or the food Aama's Kitchen is serving us. Illustrating this theory is while dining at a jammed full with people waiting (at 10 pm on a Saturday night no less) diners seemed to be happily tucking into their food except for one table who's occupants were glowering and had several extended conferences at the cash register counter.
Aama's Kitchen is a very recent and happy find in what I view to be generally unassuming Hayward. Besides the extended evening hours the food we've eaten on two visits has been quite good. With the exception of the vegetable pakoras (which themselves were well-executed with nuanced dipping sauces that showed a lot of effort had gone into them), we've stuck to the Nepalese ("Himalayan") offerings found on a separate page towards the back of the menu. We've had both the chicken and veg Momos prepared in several ways (steamed, deep fried, and deep fried and then sauteed/sauced) all of which were excellent (again the provided sauces showed a lot of nuance and attention), as expected the "Chow Mein" was definitely not Chinese restaurant fare (the noodles are the common thread but from there they head in different directions) and the Kathmandu Sekuwa, chunks of marinated flame-grilled chicken were little flavor bombs exploding happily in our mouths.
My suggestion is ignore the infighting and try the place for yourself. If you're like me you won't be...
Read moreAama's Kitchen really surprised me. The starters are that the restaurant has a cozy and well decorated interior with a great staff. The dining experience almost felt as if long time friends or family were serving us a nice meal at their home. Not only is that rare but it really makes every bite feel a bit more special because of the hospitality. It also seemed like this restaurant has regulars and that's a great sign that it's a genuine experience.
I came here looking for momos and thali and these did not disappoint. The jhol momo is served in a delicate and light but surprising soup that really hits the taste buds just right. It was also stuffed and pretty massive so eating through a plate of these was quite a delight. The thali had a pretty nice spread of excellent dal, goat meat cooked in a curry sauce and a vegetables curry. It comes with a little dessert and some condiments, rice, crispy roti/ crackers thing. The spice and aroma was just right and I loved tasting all the little dishes. Impressively the vegetables curry was the best!! Something I might not usually say lol.
I think I have eaten thali before only with a softer roti/ naan and would recommend ordering some too if you get this dish. We also got some panipuri which were really great- I have had them with a soury tamarind juice before but these had a light chutney type sauce which was super delicious. And we balanced the spicy meals with a mango lassi. All wonderful food, and a wonderful...

-Appetizer some sort of chicken tenders served with 2 sauces. We really liked the green sauce.
-Chicken momo mild heat. This was delicious!!! The smell immediately hits you when she brought it out! Our first time trying Nepalese food n so glad I read reviews prior to the visit bc I ordered the momos bc highly recommended! When our naan came out, we dipped it the remaining chili sauce from the mom's.👌
-Our main dishes were the buttered chicken and garlic cheese naan. 100/10!!!! So smooth! First impression of taste- smooth both chicken n sauce and flavor was ON POINT!!!
Love the ambiance! Decorator did a great job!
Service was great! We had a friendly young woman. Didn't catch her name but she was serving everyone in the restaurant with a beautiful smile and great attitude! Older gentleman came out (possibly owner) and asked if we needed anything n how we liked the food. He thanked us for coming and invited us to come again!
My hubby n i will be back and will be recommending this place to friends and family! Im only bummed out... that we didn't find this place sooner, especially since we live 9 minutes away. Can't wait to come back and try new dishes 🙌🤗
