I came here on a reservation as this restaurant is incredibly small. There are only 2 tables that can hold a group of 4 each, maybe 2-3 tables that can seat 2 people, and a couple seats at the chefs counter. I heard the server quote a wait time of 1.5 hours to a group who had come in without a reservation looking for a table of 4, so make sure you make a reservation! After ordering, it takes quite a long time for the chefs to make your sushi, I think we waited around 30 minutes? But that's because everything was cut and made fresh. Make sure you have good company to chat with or else the wait will bore you! For a group of 3, we got 2 nigiri combos, 1 sashimi combo, 1 spicy salmon maki roll, 1 negi hama hosomaki roll. Nigiri combo - 8/10. This was a great value for for only $25! You can pick 7 nigiris as well as a chef's choice maki roll. I really enjoyed the Kanpachi, Kurodai, and Ika because they torched the top for some smokey flavor. Our maki roll of the day was the salmon & shiso hosomaki which had a hint of perilla leaf flavor! For the amount paid, it was definitely worth it! Spicy salmon maki roll - 9/10. This isn't your standard spicy salmon roll where they mince the salmon with some spice. These are strips of whole salmon so you really get to taste the meaty parts of the salmon. It was my favorite dish of the night! Negi hama hosomaki roll - 6/10. We all didn't think much of it. It was pretty bland and I thought that the rice in the roll overpowered the fish. It is a pretty light fish in the first place, so you won't be able to taste it much.
Overall a great choice if you want some cheap and beautifully presented sushi! The menu is relatively...
Read moreSo this review is for a pickup order. There was an issue with the two Nigiri combos that we ordered (the third item we ordered was fine). Both of the combos were customized and after my wife began eating what she thought was hers, she realized that all of the items were mixed up between the two combos. She had started eating hers before I did and she ran into squid unexpectedly. The squid was supposed to be for my order but it was mixed in with some of the things that she had ordered. After looking at both of the combos we realized that they were completely mixed up and we couldn't even tell for sure that all of the items were correct. The squid was spat out and thrown away. At that point dinner was a fail and a few days later I contacted the location about a replacement. I told the person who answered the phone that I needed to speak to someone about an issue with an order. They acted as though they could help but once I explained everything they put me on hold without saying anything and suddenly a manager appeared on the phone. There was no greeting )or how can I help you?). They just launched into asking for pictures with an unhelpful tone. I explained that I didn't have pictures but that I was a long time customer of the Oakland location and a new customer to this location and that this had never happened before but we just wanted a replacement. When it was obvious that they weren't really interested in helping I mentioned that we could just do Yelp and contact our credit card company which they...
Read moreFinding a nice sushi place in Hayward has been a challenge, and this place rivals those nice sushi restaurants in SF. It started put as a takeout only place but has since opened up a small dining room with about 4-5 tables and a sushi bar that seats 6-7 people. This place is lnow for their high quality nigri combo, which comes with 7 non-repeated pieces of your choice from a rotating menu of fresh fish, some of which I believe comes directly from Japan, as well as a chef choice maki roll. Some of the choices include Toro (fatty bluefin tuna) and Kanpachi (Amberjack) Hotate (Hokkaido scallop) and Kurodai (black snapper), but they have different fish every week. Needless to say, everything was fresh and delicious, and at $25 per set, you really can't find a better deal! The sashimi combo is also very good. They do have some exclusive dine-in options as well. During our recent outing, we tried the chanwamushi, which is a steamed egg custard dish, and it was delicious. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you want high-quality sushi without the crazy rolls. Note for all the parents of little kids, this place does not have...
