Amazing!!! We always come here every year during our 4th of July vacation, and we always make it a priority to stop here at LEAST 3 times during the week. There are so many flavors and I really appreciate that they let you do a half and half scoop, so you could try up to 2 flavors while just paying for a single scoop! Some people say it's way too pricey, but honestly, where are you going to find freshly made, housemade, ice cream like this near Hayward? Only at West's I tell you! They also change up some of their flavors sometimes which is kind of nice to see some new flavors amongst our go-to's. The service is also great, even when the line is out the door and around the block, they still try to get to everyone as fast as possible, while still being patient and kind to their current customer. I love it here, and if I'm going to be totally honest, I would skip out on that other ice cream shop down the street for this place any time. Thanks to the West's team for all the wonderful work you do!
EDIT: it’s currently 2023, and oh my goodness. West’s I love ya, but you NEED to make your scoops smaller. My single cone looked...
Read moreWest ice cream is delicious - that's why we came here again. The servers were friendly. The rest of my family loved their ice cream flavors - lots to choose from and the chocolate is very chocolatey! My main problem today was that I ordered an ice cream sandwich, partially because it sounded good, and mostly because it was cheaper than an ice cream cone ($4 v $5-6). However, when I paid, suddenly I was charged $6. They said it was because they upgraded to using homemade cookies, which were yummy, and they're also a little bigger now, but it doesn't feel that difficult to update the price on their menus to reflect that. Additionally, their counter freezer had gone out, so they had to move their ice cream sandwiches to the back, and I could tell this one had partially melted during the malfunction and was refrozen. So I paid 50% more for a less quality ice cream sandwich which was a bummer to me. The chocolate homemade cookies were good, and with fresh ice cream would be better as well. The biggest pet peeve is updating the menu prices to...
Read moreThe shop still has the same charm we've enjoyed for the almost 40 years we've been coming here. However, help must be hard to find, as everywhere, since there were only three kids working the counter in the height of the busy July season. I had seen an earlier review on the cookie dough, which is also my husband's favorite. The taste and portion size was as always. And while the ingredients may be the same source, the amount certainly is not. His ice cream was basically vanilla with a few chocolate chip crumbs. My Salted Caramel was lacking in taste altogether. However, my blueberry cheesecake was delightful, and very tasty. We heard similar disappointments from other family members who went apart from our visit. I, understand cost increases, but personally, would be happier with a 20% smaller portion and more of the ingredients that...
