edit: To provide details as requested by the owner (which they deleted after this edit), this was Saturday 3/29 around 2:50-2:55 pm at the Hayward library location. The people working were the one on the left in the photo of 2 baristas, and the single one w/ arm tattoos in the other photo posted to this page. After I paid for my latte, I heard the tattooed barista ask the other where a clean container was. They both looked at the sink and the other giggled and said "I'll wash them," but just stood there chatting as the first one made my drink. I even heard them questioning which things were clean/used. All of this led me to doubt the cleanliness of this place and their knowledge of food safety and I regret not just throwing the drink away. I was looking out the window when they poured the milk so it could've been dairy, or dirty equipment, or both that made me sick. The only other thing I consumed yesterday was breakfast that I shared with someone who didn't get sick later in the day, so I'm certain it was the latte. I understand accidents with mixing up milk happen but this situation as a whole was totally unacceptable.
Original review: The $7 coffee was suspiciously lukewarm and the dishes in the sink were piled to the top so I wasn’t sure about the cleanliness of the equipment (the 2 baristas were joking to each other about this), but I drank it anyway. I had asked for non-dairy milk because I’m allergic to dairy. They either gave me cow’s milk or food poisoning because I got a stomach ache within an hour and was horribly sick through the...
Read moreZocalo has the best coffee, so tasty and delicious. However, this morning, I ordered a piece of quiche and it was good, not great. I looked at my receipt and saw I was charged $17 for a piece of quiche. I verified that this was the correct price because when I first saw it, I thought it was seven dollars since everything else on the food menu was between seven and $10. This is a ridiculous price to charge for a piece of quiche, regardless of any...
Read moreI love Zocalo in San Leandro but the coffee at this pocket cafe tasted like dirt. There was only one barista and a pretty long line of customers, fortunately I ordered in advance of my arrival. But even then, she didnt start making my coffees until I showed up and the phone notification I got gave a 30 mins wait time before heading over to pick up 🧐 -- nobody wants to wait 40...
