Doug's Delight — Restaurant in Hazel Park

Check your bills. They charge 10% more on your bill then prices listed on the windows. I mentioned it to the girl behind the pickup window and got a snotty attitude that there wasn't really any need for because they're inflating their price more then what's advertised. She tried to tell me its sales tax. Sales tax in Michigan is 6% not 10. Plus, I paid cash so there should be no other "convience" fees of any sort. Just an additional 4% for them to pocket off gross sales. Over the course of the season that will equal thousands if not tens of thousands being taken from the community. Which is disappointing seeing as I've been a local resident for 30 years and local business owner for over 15. Unfortunately, its not the first time I've had issues up there but it will be the last. I won't go back nor will we order our business luncheons from there for the Italian beefs moving forward.

*update reply to owner As the girl with the attitude behind the counter said, "its done by the computer". Well, the computer only does what its programmed to do. How many mistakes are made by that computer a day? I promise you, its not the 64 cents extra that I was charged. But the point behind it. I didn't even ask for my 64 cents back. Just wanted to bring it to her attention that it wasn't correct. The attitudes I got after I brought it up is unacceptable. This is the 2nd time its happened with the wrong percentage and 3rd with the attitudes. The first time was when I was refused service because I wasn't wearing a mask while standing outside. Which is absurd, so I left. Continued to still be a customer, but after today...

Frustrating experience. Ordered a brownie sundae and was asked if we wanted whipped cream and cherry on it, answered yes. Then comes out with peanuts on it. Told the staff we had allergies to peanuts and the staff member just got upset about it and didn’t offer to remake it. Just stood there mad that it happened. They then proceeded to make me pay another $9 for them to remake an entire new sundae. Then they claim it wasn’t their fault because their sundaes have nuts on them. We told them they never asked about nuts, only cherry and whipped cream and the girl just kept saying it wasn’t their fault.

Obviously, we can’t assume anything but peanuts is a common allergy that is either usually listed on menus if the food contains it or the staff acknowledges and asks. Since we did not get asked about nuts, we assumed there wasn’t since it was a brownie sundae.

It’s an honest mistake from both sides, but very frustrating that they made us pay for an entire new sundae when they could have either been kind and remade it without a fuss or given us some money off....

Went here as a young child and now that I live in the neighborhood I come here as an adult. Always wonderful delicious food, great icecream & great friendly service! They are always busy in good weather & always worth the wait! Plan ahead and don't show up 10 or 15 minutes before they close! They respect their workers lives and close on time so they can finish their jobs and go home which is just another great reason to support this small business! Everyone who works here is amazing. You just have to try everything they serve for yourself at least once. The only thing I can say is I hope to see more than one dairy free icecream flavor in the future so I can convince my partner to come with me more often! Love that you can order online and pick up at the window....
