John’s Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Hazle Township

I used to go to this place a lot a couple of years ago, I decided to go there for lunch today with a friend of mine. The older lady who came by told us the soups of the day and asked what drinks we wanted. We told her the soups we wanted and she rudely interrupts us and says with a condescending tone she only came by to asked for what drinks we want, that kinda pissed me off, but I decided to let it slide. Our main waitress was fine. She was respectful and didn't keep us waiting. The food was expensive, that wouldn't be an issue for me if the food was at least decent, it used to be way better years ago. Lastly when I went to go pay, the older lady from earlier was at the register, she makes eye contact with me and doesnt say a word to me, not even telling me the price, it made me uncomfortable. After I hand her my card, she slaps the recipe along with my card on the desk and rudely walks away, again without saying a word. I don't know what her problem is, but she is part of the reason why I won't be returning. It's a shame, too. This place used to be my favorite...

Usually like going here but had a horrible experience today. Staff completely ignored us as we came in. Literally walked right past us. Seated ourselves at the counter and even then staff continued to be very stiff and ignorant. Took forever to wait on us and even then once we got our food never came back to us. Again we were seated directly infront of her at the counter. Still got a tip bc unlike the staff I choose not to be an ignorant person but they lost my business. Funny how whenever I came here with my family we were treated well, but when I come alone with my friend of another ethnicity we were treated like trash. Have to say the food was very good. Clam chowder soup is delicious & definitely homemade. Halushki was excellent. My daughter chose the Philly steak and fries and really enjoyed them. My sis had the lentil soup which was thick an very good, with that she also ate the stuffed cabbage w mashed potatoes which apparently was extremely good , since it disappeared off her plate! The place is not glamorous but it is very comfortable & kept clean. Can't say enough great things about the staff. They were warm & welcoming as they greeted all that entered.
