Warning, this is going to be a bad review of a place that has 4.7 out of 5.0 stars on Goggle reviews. I will back up my points with examples. If you live in Helendale, you have no other sushi choices and this review does not apply to you, you have no other choice but eat here or drive all the way to Apple Valley or Victorville.
I walked in on a Tuesday night at 7PM and there were 2 men sitting at the sushi bar, finished eating, and waiting for their check and 4 people at a table eating, not what I would consider very busy. I waited 5 minutes for someone to seat me, the whole time the sushi chef was looking down, refused to acknowledge my presence and continued working. A woman walked to the register and found me standing there. She asked me if I had a “ to go” order and I said that I didn’t and would like to dine in. She then showed me to a sticky, unlevel, and wobbly table against the wall, I should have left then but didn’t because Japanese food cannot be found in a fifteen mile radius of this place. She handed me a sticky, laminated 9x17 inch sheet that is the standard for a menu in a Norm’s/Denny’s but only 2 sided. I ordered iced tea and she left. Then the wait begins, I watch no less than 7 people come in and grab take out orders, this place must be big on take out because I did not see the iced tea for 11 minutes as the man and wife filled and wrapped take out orders and answered the phone ( I timed it on my watch). I then ordered a “Sushi Combo C” when she returned to my table. A $24.00 combination meal that took 16 minutes to be made. At this point there are five total people in the restaurant eating and the man and wife team running the business. A constant stream of people come in, said hi in a familiar tone, converse with the couple and pick up their takeout orders (which obviously are a priority over dine in customers). My $24.00 combo meal did not include a salad, miso soup, or even a small dish of edamame, so much for a “combo”. What did show up at my table was 8 pieces of nigiri sushi and a roll of spicy tuna. Let’s talk about the sushi now. The sushi rice was cold, almost unseasoned with rice vinegar, oil, sugar, or salt. It was 7-Eleven convenience store sushi rice, shameful. The fish was thinly cut and only one piece of Hamachi was offered, I got three pieces of thinly cut salmon instead (salmon is much cheaper than Hamachi). All the things that were missing from my meal are easily obtained at any ‘All you can eat” sushi place in Apple Valley or Victorville. I did not want an all you can eat feedbag experience and I did not get it at Sushi Plus. I got smaller portions, at a greater cost, quality equal to an "all you can eat" place, with a longer wait at a dirty/sticky table. I also got to look at dirty dishes left on all the other tables after people left the restaurant, the tables were left dirty and untouched, including the sushi bar. No one was busing the tables at all.
The quaint “Mom and Pop” feel and the take out orders will keep Sushi Plus in business with happy 4 and 5 star ratings because most of the people eat the food in the comfort of their own homes.
If Sushi Plus was in Los Angeles, it would go out of business inside of three months, but it’s in Helendale so it will thrive. Hey at least it’s close, right? Most people will put up with anything for...
Read moreMe and my husband read and heard so many good reviews about the sushi here, but unfortunately it fell way short or desert pallets are totally different from city taste buds. Aside from being expensive...$70 later. We ordered 3 different rolls baked/cold, baked clam appetizer and ramen. All were drenched with the same overpowering sweet brown sauce that made everything all taste the same. The $8 ramen was literally a top ramen package in spiced up broth. The seafood used in the baked roll smelled strong and the panko shrimp used in the other roll was hard/overcooked. We ended up not eating most of our order, which was disapointing. The presentation of all the food was beautiful it looked mouthwatering but the flavor balance and texture...
Read moreThese amazing folks have never let me down. You text them your order, They text you how long it will take. They make your food fresh and very clean and beautiful every time. I recommend the Sunny roll if you like lemon. Very crisp with citrus with a little bit of Ponzu makes it pop!!!!!! The Fishermans burrito is amazing as well. The sauce they serve with it is unbelievable and it is a full meal for sure, you will be stuffed after one of those. Go here and you will not be disappointed at all. They are hard-working folks and have done very well for themselves and deserve all the customers they can get!!!
