Soooooo....tough one here.
We have been wanting to check this place out for months. And unfortunately for us, we were on our way home from a nearby park with the boys (13/12) and decided to stop in for a beer while the boys checked out the nearby creek.
The obvious - this is NOT a place for kids. White cloth tables, high end apps and cocktails, and they do not want kids anywhere but at the table with you. While I completely get that with little ones, older ones want to check the stream out. Well, they aren't having that. We immediately told them that our boys were intending to walk down the nearby bike path to find a spot to fish (Across the road and not on the property). However, they were not shy about letting them know they cannot do that onsite. Ok. I get it. But relax dude. No need to flex.
The plus - awesome location. Right next to a running brook/stream. Great Adirondack chairs to relax at and listen to the water. If you are without kids and looking for a relaxing cocktail by running water, this is your spot. Perfect.
The unknown - we didn't eat. Fancy food abound on the menu. I'd be willing to be back to try it. But, the fancy vibe doesn't necessarily meet the setting for me.
The minus - DO NOT bring your kids here. And I found it odd that you are right next to a well travelled hiking trail yet you do not cater very well to that crowd. Also, there was a small "Dog House" for pets near the Adirondack chairs. Which tells me - little dogs are fine. Little kids are not.
Overall - hard not to love this location. I would tell anyone looking for a cool setting in the area to check it out. Bring your shitzu. Just don't bring the kids.
I wish them well. Location and outdoor seating options are badass.
Cheers.
Side note: We felt COMPLETELY underdressed and we definitely were. Bermuda shorts and collared shirts would work here in the summer. Even nice slides or flips. Not my garbage workout shorts and t shirt. We randomly stopped by. That's on us. Poorly...
Read moreWe had an absolutely incredible experience here tonight. Since moving to the valley a year ago we have made it a point to try a new local restaurant at least once a week. This one just may be our new favorite. While the food and atmosphere were flawless the actual reason this place was such a joy was the staff. We showed up a bit early for our reservation and the host offered us a spot at the bar while we waited. The bartender jumped right in and started serving us up with menus and suggestions. In the time it took us to finish a drink we were asked by 3 or 4 different people how we were doing and if we needed anything. After our 2nd drink we decided that the bar was spacious enough and we were hungry so we ordered some food. Everyone was so welcoming and okay with whatever made us most comfortable. We started out with the fries which were absolutely incredible. For our main, she got the grilled chicken sandwich and I ordered the eggplant sandwich. Both of which were excellent. We also ordered a fun guy pizza for "dessert" that was also some of the best pizza I've had in the area or in general. They had a great listing of beers on tap. A little bit of everything. The cocktails, however, were the shining star. All 3 bartenders prepared cocktails for us and each and every one was amazing. They also provided knowledge of flavors and offered samples when we weren't sure what something was or what to order. I can not stress enough how incredible the staff was here. The entire time we dined we witnessed their teamwork to get the drinks out and teach a new staff member how to garnish drinks. Everyone's attitude was so positive and proactive. It just felt great to be there. Not to mention all of the Post Malone on the sound system!! After getting home we passed out on the couch for a few hours to recuperate from an awesome time. We will definitely be back. I think we just found our new favorite haunt. Thank you for an...
Read moreDisappointed to be writing a poor review of this restaurant. It was my partner and I's favorite spot over the last year, we spent quite a lot of money dining here and have brought numerous others to the restaurant. We always sit outside, as we have two kids and the area is quaint, right nearby the Hellertown Park we go to frequently. Recently we brought some friends of ours with their children, and sat at a table on the edge of the seating area closest to the grass. The kids entertained themselves peacefully and we were having a great time until management came over reporting "some complaints" about our children playing. They were not splashing in the water, throwing rocks, shouting, or running between tables. After the manager left from lecturing us about our children's behavior, the customers next to us who overheard said they were confused, seeing as the kids were playing so nicely. There were no other customers nearby. We went inside and asked to speak to management again, only to be given smart ass responses and dismissed with no reconciliation. Upon leaving, the other customers went out of their way to tell us that our children were wonderful, and that we didn't deserve to be reprimanded.
We were previously very loyal to this restaurant, bringing others to dine here including my whole team of office staff, family, and other friends, thinking it was family-friendly. Staff was always kind, but management has turned it into an uncomfortable experience for parents and children. We will absolutely not be returning, and I will make sure to revoke my praises. If PA House really wants to be successful, the team should care as much about families spending $120+ as they do any other customer. Management should be better trained in people skills, which to me is a basic requirement of the job. The Lehigh Valley doesn't need another stuck-up restaurant, it needs people-centered businesses that appreciate their...
