I'd like to start by saying we've lived in Hernando for 3 years and Velvet Cream was one of the first recommendations made to us in this city. After the first visit, my family was in love and will choose it over sonic or any other similar establishment around. The food is normally great and the servers are kind. However, tonight has been a complete nightmare and I feel I should share it because well it kind of hurt our feelings. We ordered several things after our daughter's softball team one first place in this seasons tournament. We wanted Mexican as a whole but she begged for Velvet Cream. After ordering $54.00 worth of food we got home to realize one of my daughters sandwiches had bacon on it after us specifying no meat as my wife and 3 daughters are all vegetarian. She also felt the pineapples in her pina coloda taste sour as though they might have gone bad. My taco salad didn't come with salsa or sour cream and with it being the first time ever ordering it, I didn't expect that and felt it was made wrong as all I saw was lettuce meat and cheese. None of this was a huge deal, we ordered several things and only 3 things had an issue for the first time in 3 years. We went back to ask that the drink be traded which was very near full as well as the sandwich be remade with no meat. Also at this point the taco salad was cold and the chips soggy from having to return. Immediately the man on staff refused to consider any reparations until we brought the bag which our order had been written on. He was not polite even though the food was clearly untouched. We had to drive all the way home to get the other bag out of the 3 bags which only one had the written order. The order showed the error that was made. However the staff was clearly annoyed. They did remake the food but seemed very frustrated that they were asked to remake the taco salad. They had forgotten salsa and sour cream which turns out it didn't come on the salad but rather on the side. They firmly made it clear that in the future it's not their fault if the taco salad is made soggy because that's just how it's made. I feel it was only soggy because our order was incorrect and we had to go around in circles to get it corrected which caused it to have to sit. I understand now that those things come on the side but they still had forgotten them as a whole. Nevertheless I didn't want to be troublesome so I said okay thank you so much for remaking the items for me. The server said nothing turned around and shut the window in frustration. I was completely confused as to why this experience was so rude, as I had been nothing but curteous. While my wife and I drove home our daughter calls and says our younger daughter is puking because she found a bug in her cheese fries. I will add a photo of the fries but we dare not go back and complain, as we might be made subject to crucifixion seeing as though the entire staff seemed annoyed with our bacon and taco salad. Sadly we won't be returning. After $54 in one visit and hundreds over 3 year time span I feel we deserved a bit more compassion towards the situation at hand. As for the pina coloda we didn't mention it after driving home to retrieve the bag. The entire process was intimidating and my wife didn't...
Read moreI imagine my review will be widely unpopular, but give me a chance. This is a very unique spot at a very accessible location. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, and the outdoor space was comfortable and unique. I heard a lot of hype about this place, and I was very excited to check it out with friends, as I was only in town for Easter, and do not live in the area and do not frequent Mississippi for reasons you will probably figure out from this review. Firstly, a giant menu that takes 10 minutes just to skim is a sign of a business prioritizing quantity over quality. The menu is a compilation of deep fried, sugary, processed convenience food and is comparable to just about any other Southern fast food place I have seen. I am willing to bet money most of their ingredients are prepackaged and then reheated. The flavor options are not impressive to me. There is nothing unique about buying 30 syrups to mix with fresh ice cream. However, I am under the impression from their website that they make their ice cream, which I do love. But for a stop-n-go place with so many options on their menu, I figured they would have plenty of healthy options to choose from, since they appear pretty contemporary from the street. However, their menu is just sugar, dairy, and meat, really. The most shocking factor was the I-40 64-oz cup size they offer. That really spoke words about their values. Does Parks and Recreations' "Child Size" to-go cup come to mind for anyone? I thought it was a joke, but now I know that there is a real-life "Ponch Burger" in Hernando, MS. The Dip really does not stand out from the other unhealthy food joints in Mississippi. I can see how this place would appeal to those who want cheap food, but for being such a popular name, the menu isn't specialty or quality. I would encourage them to introduce healthy but casual menu options to help bring clean (but delicious) eating to Mississippi. Also, get rid of the I-40. That...
Read moreThis place just gets worse and worse... My daughter and I were out earlier this evening and stopped to pick up my husband a medium mint chocolate chip shake, I decided to get a mini twist cone, and she ordered a small fried cheddar cheese cubes. We waited for quite a while at the window, and the owner finally comes and brings the shake, the cone in a tray holder, and the bag with the fried cheese. It’s $27, which was bad enough, but he hands the shake and the bag through the window, and then holds the tray out for my daughter to take the cone. When she picked up the cone from the tray, the bottom of cone broke partially away from the top as she brought it into the car. She laughed and told him that it fell apart and she handed it back to him and he said he would take care of it. He comes back in a minute and hands her a new cone (we thought), but no, as soon as I took it from her, the top started wobbling and we saw that he had just broken off the bottom and set the old cone down on top of a new cone (really??) and it wouldn’t stay together. My daughter handed it back to him and I said that’s not going to work, can I just get a new cone, and he said he would put it in a cup. I said, “No, I don’t want a cup, can I just get a new cone of ice cream?” and he said no, the cones are just flimsy, and he would just give me my money back. What!? Don’t you sell those ice cream cones every day?? Why would you not just make a new cone?? Anyway. He then hands back my debit card that had been charged for the full $27, and $6 in cash refund for the cone, and it was all covered in ice cream. We were just incredulous! We laughed all the way home at how bizarre the whole interaction was. Every time we go (which is very rarely anyway) we say we’ll never go again, but this just cemented that decision....
