We have visited this location a few times; each time I walked away thinking that the location was not up to the cleanliness and health standards that I prefer.
This is now significantly worse during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. You are risking your health and safety by visiting this location.
DO NOT TAKE THE CHANCE
Our last visit was on a Sunday afternoon at around 2:00 PM. When my wife and I approached the door, there was a man standing directly in front of the store smoking a cigarette. As we got closer we noticed he had a Dairy Queen uniform on. He was a middle aged man and may have been the manager or franchisee.
As soon as we entered and started our order, the gentleman finished his cigarette and walked in, went behind the counter and immediately grabbed a cup to start making our blizzard.
No hand-washing, no sanitizer, no gloves....nothing. Straight from cigarette, to outside door handle, to our food.
I asked him to please wash his hands, since he was just outside smoking and my wife is pregnant. He obliged, by turning the water on and running the tips of his fingers under the stream of water for approximately ONE SECOND.
No soap, no scrubbing, no singing Happy Birthday twice, no gloves....nothing. Making it even worse, he dried his wet hands on a towel with visible stains, that should probably have been discarded in 2019.
He then went directly back to the same cup he was using previously. At that point we told him, "No thank you, we changed our minds," and promptly left.
Do not visit this location if safety and cleanliness are a priority to you during COVID-19 and in general. If they are this blatant about their disregard to cleanliness with customers in the store, how do you think they act when no one is looking?

Read moreWe haven't been indulging as much in recent years in ice cream, but a couple of weeks ago, while in Illinois, we enjoyed some ice cream at DQ, so for national ice cream day today, we made what we thought would be a fun pilgrimage to the closest DQ to us, which is the Herndon location. I ordered my usual (what I have ordered for the last 50 plus years) a medium twist cone with chocolate sprinkles. This location did not have chocolate sprinkles so I went with rainbow. Person who made my cone picked up a cone that was broken across the top, that any other location would have tossed, and filled it with a small quantity of vanilla topped with sprinkles. I said that I had ordered a medium twist and the DQ (manager? owner?) pushed the top part of ice cream off the cone and then put the vanilla/chocolate mix on top (again, a small portion) and handed it back with one napkin. I asked for more napkins and was given one extra. My husband ordered a Girl Scout thin mint blizzard. One cookie was used, so basically a lot of vanilla ice cream with a small bit of cookie. Not the DQ pilgrimage we were hoping for. I get that franchise owners want to limit expenses, but that was ridiculous. Not sure I am willing to try another DQ in Virginia. We...
Read moreI have always gone to this location and recently this one person has not been very pleasant with customers, specially today. I went in as usual and ordered for the family and the girl who was on duty today had a really bad attitude again. I went back to the place because whip cream was missing from my coffee moolata and she goes on to say well you should have ordered that with your order before because it is extra for whip cream. I had never heard that it cost extra but okay. So I told her no worries I will pay for the whip cream if you could add it please. She goes on and seems like she put whipcream and keeps giving me attitude and reminds me to next time remember to say add whip cream to my moolata cuts me off from explaining I didn't know whip was extra and says have a nice day. So I walk out the door and this is what she put in my drink. Not even whip cream instead it was more like milk. Everyone at this location has been more than great but this one employee should not be there or should be talked to about customer service. I didn't even bother to go back if my drink was going to be messed with like this....
