3 Little Chicks Coffee & Bakery — Restaurant in Hickory

This is my favorite bakery in Hickory and it pains me to give them a 3. My husband and I ordered our vow renewal cake last June 2020 for our vow renewal. When we ordered the cake we ordered it in person with Tara. This wasn't just an ordinary cake. The bottom tier was supposed to be funfetti cake with vanilla frosting, the 2nd tier was supposed to be carrot cake with cream cheese and the top tier was supposed to be red velvet with cream cheese. She wrote this down on the back of the order form. We ended up having to postpone our vow renewal til this April 2021 due to COVID, which they were amazing and had no problem with the new date. I kept in contact with them almost every month from January up until our vow renewal seeing if they had any questions and to make sure our cake was still a go, which Tara advised it was. Tara texted me 2 days before our vow renewal advising she would be at the church at 12pm on the day of our ceremony to deliver and assemble the cake, which I was grateful for. The day of our vow renewal, they didn't show up until just a few minutes before 1, which made everything else run behind. When I was able to see the outside of the cake, it was phenomenal. It was perfect and they matched the orange just perfect and the scrolls were absolutely perfect. The cake overall looked absolutely perfect from the outside, which I kind of figured ok with how prefect this cake looks from the outside, I will disregard them for being late. Well it was finally time to cut the cake and it was completely wrong on the inside. It was a complete white cake with vanilla buttercream. I was sooo upset because I have been looking forward to this cake. I spoke with Tara and she advised that it was her mistake that she should've looked at the back of her sheet or even called me to verify before the cake was made. she said that since we ordered it last June she just assumed that it was a regular wedding cake, which it wasn't. Tara advised she couldn't give me any type of refund, instead she is going to comp a few of my orders to make up for the price of the cake. We did work out...

I didn't notice whether the website link (it's there now) to order online, so I called & ordered as I sat in the parking lot. I ordered a chocolate croissant, a pumpkin muffin and berry scone & a regular coffee with oat creamer. I hadn't eaten all day & asked whether the bakery made quiches for lunch. They don't, and that's a missed opportunity. The Subway next door can"t compete with a freshly made quiche! Anyway, when my order was delivered to my car, the owner appologized; they were sold out the chocolate croissants.

It was before lunch, so I was a little surprised and, yeah, disappointed. I really wanted one to go with my coffee! But she had given me a cream cheese croissant and Hershey bar at no charge! I feel that was quick thinking and incredibly sweet. The coffee was good, the croissant good as well. The pumpkin muffin was very good. It was spicy, moist, and the best of the lot. I didn't enjoy the scone tbh. It was heavy and somewhat bland.

I would NOT waste my time going here!! They have the best macaroons and they also have them in the store but you can’t get them???? I have tried 3 times to get the macaroons but the first time I was told they were sold out to come early in the morning so I came early in the morning and was told that they do have them but they aren’t going to get them ready to wait til Saturday. So they make the macaroons on Monday to sell on Saturday!?? I drove 49 minutes 3 times for some Horrible excuse and to beat all it was the manager that was giving me the run around. I did try to give them the opportunity to make it right before leaving a bad review and all I got was I’m sorry. She said we only sell on Saturday BUT I wasn’t told that the 2 times before when I came. Most places do whatever they can to make things right with customers especially after 3 attempts especially the manager but not this one.
