El Paso Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Hickory

This was the most disappointing evening out that my husband and I have EVER had. The food was not how we had ordered it but it was delicious...the little bit that I ate of mine although it was prepared incorrectly. My husband's was never even touched it was completely for every bit of it was wrong and looked absolutely disgusting.. The problem was the waitress. She had not gotten even our drink order, bringing my husband a 32oz instead of a 16 oz of the WRONG kind of beer even going so far as to charge us for the wrong kind and wrong size of beer. When we said something she was extremely rude and hateful. It was then that We ask to speak with a manager and THIS WOMAN claimed to be the manager!! She even went as far as to intervene when we try to ask other employees for the manager. We finally evened up calling the conover El Paso for assistance. Of which they ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.. A SWEET GIRL ANSWERING THE PHONE and then a Mr. Chelte Soto.. the manager of the conover El Paso Mexican restaurant help to turn a horrible first experience into my husband and myself looking forward to our next dinner with El Paso Mexican restaurant BUT ONLY THE ONE...

We had a large party- 16. I know from experience that larger parties are sometimes difficult to wait on. Part of my son's food didn't come on his plate. We didn't dare ask for it. It's no telling how long we would have had to have waited for it. There were several things we asked for MANY times. Some of which came, but halfway thru the meal at best. Some of it we never saw. The chips were stale. (Second round were a little better. ) The bean dip was cold. The shrimp was dry, according to those who ordered it. Mexican cuisine is my favorite. But I don't xare to return to this restaurant. I don't normally give terrible reviews, but my experience was that bad. To add to the negativity, on the bill, everything was itemized. It showed the 18% gratuity added. I'm so okay with that. I usually tip very well for mediocre service and much better even for good service. But at the bottom of the receipt, it stated that gratuity was not added....I could literally see the exact amount that was added!!! It even said- 18% gratuity with the amount it came out to....ADDED!!! I guess a lot of people skim over it and only see the bottom...

I rarely write negative reviews because we usually try to be understanding and polite, but our recent experience at this restaurant was truly disappointing.

We went out on a double date with my wife, her sister’s boyfriend, and ourselves. The restaurant was practically a ghost town, with maybe only a handful of other customers, and it was about an hour before closing time. Despite this, the service was incredibly slow and inattentive.

We went without a drink for quite some time. When our food finally arrived, Mine was the very last dish served — well after everyone else had been eating for a while, some finished. To make matters worse, it wasn’t even the order I had placed.

When it came time to pay, the waiter seemed to expect a tip, saying “thank you for tipping” as we left, despite the fact that neither we nor the other couple left any tip, which we believe was entirely justified given the service we received.

Overall, for a nearly empty restaurant with plenty of time before closing, the inattentive and slow service, coupled with the wrong order, made for a frustrating experience. Unfortunately, we won’t...
