The eggrolls here were some of the best I've had anywhere. This hole in the wall take out only place is a unique experience in the Hickory area, more akin to what a person expects from a good food truck experience than a brick and mortar establishment.
Like a food truck, the menu is very small but each item is high quality and prepared fresh. The eggrolls are basic (chicken, pork, shrimp, veggie) but that was ok for how good they were. The homemade dipping sauces really rounded out the fantastic eggroll meal as I believe three sauces are available, in versions with or without peanuts, and with or without spiciness.
On the topic of their sauces, one particular stood out: Grandmother's Special Sauce (or a name very similar to that). Let me preface this by saying this sauce was delicious; however, oh my goodness, Grandmother must of had taste buds the equivalent of a championship ultimate fighter because this was so hot it felt like it had my tongue in a submission hold, and believe me, I'm not afraid to admit I was ready to tap out. I can handle heat (real heat, like Thai and Indian food heat) and hot sauces rarely faze me, but wow, this one was super tasty, though only for those that can handle that kind of intense heat.
The stuffed chicken wings on the menu were fabulous (especially dipped in UFC taste bud champion Grandmother's sauce!), as good as the eggrolls themselves. The fresh springrolls were a pleasant contrast to the fried eggrolls and stuffed chicken wings, and were delicious with the spicy sweet chili sauce. The dessert eggrolls (think cheesecake in an eggroll) were fried crispy, while managing to not be greasy like a lot fried desserts.
I will definitely return to the Golden Eggroll. The food was great, the prices were good, the restaurant was unique in theme, however, I do hope the menu expands. I don't mean items that aren't eggrolls as that's the core of their business, but expands with unique eggrolls (maybe something like a teriyaki eggroll or char siu eggrolls) that would make a person happy to stop to purchase nothing but a dinner of various flavors of eggrolls. For a quick snack or a tasty meal, I think anyone that stops here will be glad they...
Read moreCame here about 12pm on a Thursday for my first time and the food took about 10 minutes to get out to me. After some deliberation (and the recommendation of the friendly cashier), I ordered the General Park's Chicken with fried rice and a side of Crab Rangoons. Let me tell you...absolutely delicious!! The General Park's is perfectly sticky and spicy with excellent flavor and the broccoli in it is a perfect al denté! The Crab Rangoons are delicious as well, the center is warm and gooey with a perfect crunch on the exterior! Literally the only bit of constructive criticism I have is that I think the Fried Rice needs a bit more seasoning but it had a perfect balance of vegetables, egg, and rice! Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious! This is certainly a hidden gem in the Hickory area that I recommend...
Read moreI LOVE this place!! Best eggrolls!!! I like the stuffed wings cause it’s a yummy twist, but man, those eggrolls are what have me hooked!!! They actually use the cellophane/bean thread noodles (I think that’s what they’re called) I haven’t ordered anything else because I make a meal out of the eggrolls. Extremely friendly people. Always fresh, so fresh, that you have to wait for them to cool a little in order to eat them. They don’t have seating, so expect that. And their sauces are yummy. I like that they offer all of them in...
