Mountain Fried Chicken — Restaurant in Hickory

The always have to ask for my chicken wings to be fried/dipped twice whenever I order from this place in Hickory. Yesterday it took the worker a long time just to take my order at the drive-thru. She took my order, I paid and again, a long wait. I ordered 10 fried wings (flat), a side of wedges and ranch sauce I specified my request to have the wings dropped in the grease again for hard and crispy because I've bought chicken from this place before and the outside of the chicken looks crispy but when you bite into it, it's too soft to the point where you can even taste the fat still connected so I just ask that my order of chicken be dropped/fried twice. Eventually another worker (the rude shorter worker, I wish I grabbed her name) brought my order in a bad at the drive-thru window. As she was handing me the order, I asked "10 piece fried wings dipped twice" she said, well she didn't say that (she as in the 1st worker that took my order). I said and they are flats? She said "she didn't tell me that either". She walk away then come back and say it's a 12minute wait on flats and she asked me to pull all the way up to the yellow line in the parking lot. I did. The wait was well over 30 minutes. Finally a very nice worker, a guy walked out with my food and he was very nice (I really appreciate his customer service skills). I open my order bag and notice 3 filled containers of what looks like hot sauce when I asked for ranch with flats and wedges. I hated so bad to walk in that place and speak of this order again but went anyway because I simply want what I ordered. I'm standing and standing and finally I see the rude lady again so I.walk up with my bag open to take out all 3 containers of hot sauce. Her reaction and yelling to another worker that my order was back and just her overall rudeness and NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS was so annoying, that had I said something to her, I would have made the situation worse real quick but goodness help her God. Thankfully, I looked over and saw the guy worker and he seemed approachable and he heard everything and I directed my eyes toward him and asked, in a very soft voice if he could give me some ranch sauce, as I took out all 3 hot sauce containers. He gave me 3 ranch sauce instead and was still very pleasant. I said thank you so much with a smile and walked out. Back in my SUV, I bite into a wedge and it wasn't even cooked fully. It was huge and still hard but nice and golden on the outside. I was so over it and drove off. Worse food drive-thru experience so far and I always gave a tip at this place because they keep a tip jar there on the outside of the drive-thru window. I didn't tip yesterday because I paid with a card. Help the workers there God because, they need it. I don't want to be called by a manager, I don't want a free meal. I'm just disguised and definitely won't be back. Blessings to the nice guy...

Portions could stand to be a lot bigger. We had to eat again and we aren't really built for double meals. Banana pudding was just pudding flavored as banana..the wedges were good and the chicken had a decent flavor and wasn't greasy but the 2 breasts were tiny. I think we will stick to the B&B store up the road. The drive thru was closing up when we went and we didn't have a lot of options that were still available to us. Also the cashier was a little overly friendly and used the southern terms of endearment way more in her sentences than any other words she spoke. It wasn't pleasant as it felt really rushed and also unfriendly in domineering uncomfortable banter while trying to decide our first time what they had to offer to eat that was on the menu. Nice gesture but forced and too personable plus she ask us how much of a tip to add to his bank card after she had rang it in and hasn't given the total balance yet. Me personally, if you're the window person at the drive thru, you did your job duties that you're already being compensated for. If a person feels obliged to tip u because you went above and beyond the call of duty to be able to complete the order or perhaps someone felt like tossing a complimentary token of kindness your way, it's not to be expected in that line of servitude nor should you ever ask someone prior to giving them a total balance of their purchase. Gratuity is just that. She wasn't even going to let us know what she had already charged to our card but persisted to repeat why and how much and what it did to ask etc in regards to a tip to ring out the drawer after sliding out card. Driver just said yeah I mean I guess and looked dumbfounded as she names her own amount that was pretty nominal to be honest considering she wasn't even going to mention it and just hand him back his card without a receipt or anything. The tip for one order as we both ordered separately was nearly the amount it cost to purchase the entire ticket. Nope. Be aware of this when you are using your cards out there. 1st - the chicken was amazing! Remember KFC like 30 years ago when there was more meat than grease? This chicken was juicy and tasted amazing. I got a 15 piece with 3 sides and 7 rolls for $40! $40! I can't go to BK with 4 adults for less than $50. The amount of food I got was incredible for that price. Not little skimpy chicken legs either. Big pieces of chicken! The reason for 4 stars instead of 5? I placed my order at the drive up and the very nice man told me it would be about 8 mins. So I pulled around and waited. They were busy so I wasn't surprised it was longer than 8 mins. By about the 20 min mark, I was getting ready to go see the hold up. About that time, here comes our food. Admittedly, they had forgotten about my order. The man that brought my food out was very nice also and apologetic. Not a big deal necessarily but it did knock my review down a bit. I ordered potato wedges as a side and they were a little under cooked which I chocked up to them rushing to get my order out. Overall, the food, the taste, and the quality were on point, and I've definitely found my new chicken joint. I'll be happy to upgrade this to a 5 in my next round if I need to.
