McDonald's — Restaurant in High Point

I am often struck by the efficiency and kind patience of all McDonalds employees, and this particular McDonalds could easily be the model for the rest. It's spotless cleanliness hasn't escaped the recognition of the local health department, who awarded it a 100.0% cleanliness rating. The unpretentiously funky decor is similar, but not identical, to the McD's I've visited in New York City, and I for one appreciate the subtle nods that this and other McDonalds increasingly give to local architectural tastes. There are children playing happily in big, clean PlayPlace, and the staff is notably courteous, even for the South. More on McDonalds as a whole. It has always been a reflection of American culture, and as Americans become more health conscious and more concerned with the environmental and social impact of their existence, so too does Mickey D's. While the impact of our society's improved benevolence on corporate franchises may be most obvious in the Yippiesque do-goodery of Starbucks and Trader Joe's, McDonalds deserves some credit for making real changes as a result of complaints by PETA, Greenpeace, and that Super Size Me guy. The modern McDonalds has moderately healthy options, has less if still too much packaging, provides better if not exemplary benefits to its employees, and is at least somewhat more conscientious about animal cruelty. My principle reservation is the lack of a BK-Veggie equivalent, for the sake of my knowingly undisciplined semi-vegetarianism. Based on my delicious and cheap Chipotle BBQ Chicken snackwrap, from the free WiFi and infinite free refills of Diet Dr. Pepper, and from the smiles and laughs of the staff in the gleaming kitchen, I am hereby officially renouncing my long held disdain for McDonalds, and granting its ubiquity worldwide my tacit approval. Went back again tonight 8/8 @10:45pm. Placed a mobile order for a fudge sundae and 2 sugar cookies. Got to the window and a young man came to the window and says it will be 1.07 that's because I had a coupon for a free sundae. Now if you are familiar with the mobile ordering you would know that when you get there you don't have to give any money because it charges the card you have on file. I asked for the young man to check again and he came back and told me the same thing. The whole while a male manager was standing right there talking to him wilinw trays. I call to him I asked him why is it not coming off of the card. He says he doesn't know. I go into my wallet to get out the 1.07 to pay for my order and asked the manager if it would still charge my card. He states he doesn't know but if ot does I would need to contact the GM. As I proceed to hand the manager my money he states oh and by the way the sundae side of the machine is down. Which now I'm over the whole order. I then tell him never mind and cancel the order and gave the hard cookies back. It seems to me if the manager was doing his job he would have gave me the cookies for free and asked if I wanted something to substitute the sundae. Instead the situation was shrugged off and on to the next customer. Very poor...

This store has become the worst McDonald's I've ever been to. The worst part is, until fairly recently, it wasn't like this. Regardless, now, the utter apathy among the employees...all of them...is palpable.

It's like a contest to see which employee can stand within view of the customer and do the absolute least. I stood there, the only customer in the dining room, absolutely ignored. I do not consider myself confrontational, so I probably stand ignored longer than most.

When I finally said something (very politely) I was surprised by an employees begrudged attitude after I asked her to check on my order. Without a word, she handed me my long ready and now-cold menu items.

You dont go to McDonald's because the food is high quality, or even the tastiest. You go because its convenient, quick, and reasonably courteous. This store no longer has any of these qualities. This store is the most convenient store to where I live, but I wont come back until I see a sign that reads "under new management". It's just not worth the...
