El Mariachi — Restaurant in High Ridge Township

Good food, Great service. Fair prices. We were looking for something to replace our favorite local mexican restaurant and bar since moving from Hillsboro. So many statements below are in comparison with Tequila Taco restaurant and bar in Hillsboro, which is excellent and worth the drive.

We went there (TEQUILA Taco Bar) tonight and their cantina was open but we were wanting dinner. We decided to drive back to House Springs to try this place out. Maybe it could take the place of our favorite spot in Hillsboro?

Athmosphere was typical of your local mexican restaurant. Fairly clean, lively without being loud. Service was excellent. There was sign to possibly expect delays due to how busy they were. I appreciated the notice but food came out at a reasonable time. We didnt notice a delay. We had a margarita two servings of almond tequila and a seltzer to go with our dinner. Two entrees, pollo chile verde and chicken and cheese nachos. Food arrived warm and freshly prepared. Very favorful pollo en chile verde, heavy on the cilantro which I enjoy. It was a bit salty for me but not so much I couldnt eat it nor did it warrant sending it back. Drinks were seved cold.

Almond Tequila.... the star of any area mexican joint. Serving was about a finger pour served cold in a lowball glass. Im used to getting it as a shot in a chilled shot glass. My only complaint with receiving it this way was the glass should have been chilled if you are serving it in a lowball without a large crystal clear rock. Flavor was excellent though. This stuff is usually infused onsight so it does vary from place to place. It was semi sweet without being overbearing.

All in all I was happy. Will I be going back? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes. Did it win me over from making the 15 minute longer drive to my favorite place in Hillsboro when they are done with renovations? Sadly no. But I will be returning as expectations were met. The staff is delightful, and the restaurant is very lively. We waited 20 minutes to be seated, and then another 10 minutes after being seated to place our orders. I told the gentleman who was taking our order that I wanted a steak burrito, with only lettuce,onion, and cheese inside. I specifically said not to put any cheese or sauce on the exterior. He took our order and said that it would be 35 min. wait for our food. We noticed that other couples were seated and served much faster than we were during our wait for our food. 50 minutes passed and we had to flag down our waiter and remind him that we were waiting on our food. Directly after mentioning it to him, it was brought out. Everyone's meal was prepared correctly, except for my burrito. The lettuce and cheese was put on top of the burrito and it barely had any steak and onion inside it. I couldn't find the waiter after he brought the plate. 5 minutes passed, and still no sign of our waiter. I saw condiments along the wall and I got up and got my own hot sauce and put it on my burrito. As they say, when life gives u lemons, u make the best lemonade you can. Half way through my burrito disguised as an enchilada (that's how skimpy it looked), my waiter appeared. At this point I stopped caring, I just asked for water, and he said okay and never brought it. I had a bad experience, my friends who were with us have only had great experiences up until today. I hope others don't experience what I did. I will not be visiting here again. We recently celebrated a birthday at El Mariachi and I am beyond impressed with the remarkable experience we had. Despite not having a reservation, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our large party with a spacious table. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly.
