The Blue Owl Bakery — Restaurant in High Ridge Township

I ordered $130 worth of custom desserts and two pies for my son’s birthday. I confirmed my order and paid the invoice. I discussed all the details with Laura through a series of 4 emails and stated we would pick up Saturday at 11am. I sent my husband to pick up the order and they charged him again, they said everything was there but after checking my order there were no pies. After realizing we tried to call the house springs location 4 times with no answer. My husband drove back up to the location (20 min drive) and was told they didn’t make the pies because I didn’t order them. The front desk staff was very rude to him for stating he wanted the banana creme pie made (it’s our son’s favorite) and said that wasn’t going to happen. They then made him wait 20 mins while they completed a taste testing in the back. After having to prove through screenshots that we were charged twice and indeed did order 2 pies they agreed to make the pies while my husband and son waited for another 30 mins. During this time they gave them two free glazed donuts and $5 off the two pies. I don’t believe an hour and a half of wasted time on a expensive custom birthday order is equal to two $1 donuts (at closing time on a Saturday) and $5 off, we spent more in gas in a single trip there. We don’t want this review to be one-sided so we will start by saying that the flavor and taste of the desserts Blue Owl bakery made for our wedding were amazing. Everyone was fighting over the shooters and the cookies.

However, the overall experience we had with them was less than great. First of all, even after communicating with them on the venues policies, their cake delivery crew arrived way too early and had to wait in the car for the venue to let them inside to set up. Our cake was also smashed on the bottom layer somehow. We didn’t notice until the cake-cutting. See the picture for details. We didn’t care too much because overall we liked the presentation of the desserts. But when something like this happens, the least Blue Owl could have done was letting us know that it happened. We can’t say for sure if it was the delivery crew who was at fault for this as we weren’t watching when they set up the cake. Working with Laura and the Blue Owl Sweet Shoppe was a pleasure. I ordered a cake for a bridal shower I hosted on 8/22/2020. I began communicating with Laura in mid July, and she right away sent me ideas and pictures based on the style and theme I had described over the phone. We emailed back and forth to finalize all the details. Laura seemed as excited as I was about the cake! She was friendly, quick to respond, knowledgeable, and helpful. The bride's favorite meal is dessert - and this cake went above and beyond. I received compliments on its' beauty as guests came through the door, and compliments on their way out about how DELICIOUS it was. I really can't say enough good words about this cake or the experience I had working with Laura.
