The Classic Coney Cafe — Restaurant in Highland Charter Township

This is your stereotypical dive coney. The kind you go to a 2am after a bar night in college, though this is only open from 8a-3p for breakfast and lunch. The atmosphere tries to be 50s with a Marilyn picture and checkerboard linoleum floors, but that is a fast as it gets. Ripped seats and mismatched furniture promptly bring you back to dive. The service was great. Our waitress took our drink order and returned to take our food order. She returned three times during the meal to refill waters and coffee and the check (bring to far end of counter to pay). The eggs, home fries, bacon and toast were standard in preparation and taste. The biscuits and gravy were pre-packaged biscuits and canned gravy. The breakfast wrap was on pita bread and a slightly fresher version of a fast food fare. The prices were good,, but the quality matches.... you get what you pay for as they say. Expect ~$10/per person all said and done with tax and tip. You won't count this place as a go to, but it'll do the job if you're waiting for a car to be repaired,...

My 2nd review. The soups here are phenomenal! The best chicken noodle I've ever had. Today chicken enchilada...wow! It was fantastic. I was talking with the gentleman next to me how good it was and one of the "chefs" grabbed my bowl and refilled it. Just an awesome gesture. He than asked if I wanted to try something he made today. I , of course, said yes. He warned it was spicy. I'm good with spicy. Wow! Soooo good and I made sure he knew it! As I got up to leave he asked if I wanted some to go...he'll yes! It was so good I couldn't wait to get home from work to enjoy. I forgot to mention the Classic Coney's! I could only get half them down after pigging down all that soup. The coneys are the best around,, bar none. I'm always impressed with this place, the soups are the best I've ever had, and the "we're all friends here" atmosphere is the frosting on the cake. Just ordered dinner for three. Taco salad, chef salad, and chicken quesadilla. The salads could have easily fed 3 people each. My 90 year old mother ate 1/2 the taco salad and all but one small peice of quesadilla. Everything was soooo tasty. The lettuce and veggies were so fresh and crisp. The chef salad must have weighed 2 lbs!!!! The ham and turkey were so flavorful, the cheese was plentiful. Erica took my phone order and told me it would be ready at 6 pm. I arrived at 6:03 and she had it freshly boxed up. I am impressed with all aspects of this establishment. The food, service and price point are all excellant. This is my first experience ordering something other than a coney dog. Outstanding!!!. My mother is insisting on ordering at least once a week for the forseeable future.
