We have gone here for years. Through all the names & iterations the food was always very good. Service was always lacking and spotty, so we've only done take-out for the past 6 years. Now, we only do takeout when we want sushi, because other Chinese places have gotten better, except for sushi.
Tonight was the second or third time in the last few months that we thought the food was absolutely forgettable and bland. Not worth the price - a large order of 6 appetizer items (2 being sushi) and 1 fried rice for two people is $100 and everything was totally bland.
With good Chinese, you see it in the fridge and just want it - whether you are hungry or not. This stuff? You see it in the fridge and say "I'm not that hungry." If you have no other food in the house, you'd eat the leftovers.
You would do well to look into the big place in Hanover or the tiny place in Rockland.
Also - their healthy version (and only version) of General Tso's Chicken is so bad it's criminal. Like boiled chicken bits covered in generic sweet...
Read moreIm sad because I ordered here a few months ago and it was amazing but I just ordered the general gaos today and it is completely different. When I first ordered it seems like it was good chicken and good sauce. Today it's the typical overly breaded fake chicken that you can get at any Chinese restaurant and the sauce is watery. Im not sure what changed but im super disappointed in the quality since one entree costs $19
Also they tried to cross out the cost on the receipt because the prices through doordash are significantly higher. I know it's often a dollar or two more on doordash but $5 more is next level. I paid $19 for general gaos when the receipt clearly shows $14.
Update: I tried ordering sushi from here two separate times. Each time I asked for the salmon in my Alaska roll to be cooked and each time it has come rare. I am pregnant and can't even have it. I will not be ordering...
Read moreMy family has been to Gourmet Garden many times and we’ve always liked the food and service. But this review is concerning their sushi.
My wife and I wanted to go on our own sushi crawl so we picked out four places, not all Chinese restaurants, to try the same sushi roll and rate each one. The roll was one that had shrimp tempura and spicy tuna. Gourmet Garden won hands down. Everything in the roll was super fresh, it was a good size, and the flavor of the tempura was delicious. It was surprising how hidden the tempura flavor was at the other restaurants.
I won’t name the other restaurants we tried, but most have good reputations for sushi. Two of the others in particular I have been told by separate people have the best sushi on the South Shore, respectively. Although prior to this sushi crawl I didn’t think first that Gourmet Garden is one of the top sushi places on the South...
