First off let me say that I love that we have a downtown Hobart and I want to support our restaurants. That being said, this review is just our honest experience so that the owners know from a new customer perspective.
The restaurant had a very, very, fowl odor when we walked in the door. It smelled like an old nursing home. That being said I thought it could possibly be food odors, possibly. We lived in PR for years and we’ve smelled some things cooking that end up tasting great. So, my husband asked if I wanted to leave and I said no let’s get our food to go, we waited to come in, we know it takes time for restaurants to get in their groove after opening. Before posting this I went through the reviews and realize everyone has an opinion on food and you’re not going to get everyone’s vote. It was 7pm on a Saturday, your food should be fresh and hot during peak hours. I think the kitchen microwaved a majority of our order and it missed the mark. Overall, I think our food was not a good representation of authentic Puerto Rican food, it didn’t seem like it was made with any kind of love. We realize food costs are high and once prepped it only keeps for so long, but when people dine out at a higher cost the food needs to be near perfect or it shouldn’t leave the kitchen. You know what the quality of the food you’re putting out is and what goes on in your kitchen and as a new customer it was disappointing. The passion of sharing Latin food with your community was not put into either of our meals. Also you explained that you addressed the beans in another review on to go orders and did warn us of the spilling which again, if you know it’s an issue, then resolve it. The female server we had taking our order and the gentleman that was there were very nice but I think could be a bit more welcoming in true Latin culture style. We walked in, there were three tables of guests and we just kinda kept walking, he saw us but didn’t say-“Welcome” or “Come on in, sit wherever you like” or anything just watched as I made my way to a table. Service is everything, the feeling people get from the experience will keep them coming back. Best of luck, we wish...
Read moreWe loved this restaurant when they initially opened. We couldn't get enough! We bragged about it and shared its location and gave raving reviews to anyone who would listen and ignored the negative reviews of the East Chicago store. But now we are watching its decline. It started with carry out orders. The food is almost always wrong in some facet. The carry out boxes are flimsy so when they stack and pack the bag, the bean juice or something else has leaked over everything else in the bag. We stopped carrying out. Then we figured we will eat in the restaurant because we hadn't had any issues there. Not so much anymore. The restaurant wasn't busy and my order was STILL wrong. My wife ordered chicken tacos. The meat looks like left over chicken breasts that were chopped up into little chunks and well over cooked on a flat top grill with no flavor. Definitely not fresh! My steak was very fatty and hard to chew at times. It used to be a spicy dish, but today was not even close. The restaurant is cold and kind of dark and the restroom is also dark and in serious need of a good cleaning! To wash it all down, there is a "service charge" on the bill. I didn't ask, but assume it's for using my card as tender. No customer should ever see the proprietors passing the buck to them! I think we are going to let them sit for a while and maybe try them again some time in the future, but for now, we're done. It's too common that restaurants open up with the highest of standards and quality, but then become complacent...
Read moreJust wanted to share our experience at Tania’s in downtown Hobart.
Went here late Saturday night to celebrate my little sister having her baby (late because I had been at the hospital supporting my sister). I had never tried this spot before, and didn’t realize they were open so late on Saturday nights. Just saw it was a place that was open and nearby. The kitchen was still serving food til midnight and the bar was open til 2am. Perfect.
I am SO glad we randomly chose this place to go. The food was absolutely INCREDIBLE. The people were so welcoming and friendly. Everything was amazing. Seriously it was so good it made me dance with happiness the second I took a bite of my food.
We spent quite a bit but had an appetizer, dinner, drinks, and dessert. And the food was high quality; fresh ingredients, made with care and skill, and were large portions. The drinks were also great. DEFINITELY well worth it. We had enough leftovers for a small lunch for me and two of my teen sons the next day.
Everything we had was absolutely amazing. This is now one of my favorite spots in NWI.
I HIGHLY recommend as both a restaurant or a bar destination. There is a restaurant side separated from the bar side, as well as tables in...
