L-City Coffee + — Restaurant in Hocking Township

I want to start off by first saying that I love the coffee and chai tea at L-City! I haven’t had a drink that I didn’t love. I also want to pay compliments to the owner, he’s always super welcoming and friendly whenever I see him! Unfortunately, I’m only giving the rating a 3/5 stars because of most (not all) of the girls have been incredibly rude and act annoyed when I ask questions. I went in today (August 23rd @10:15am) to get myself and my friend iced coffees. I brought my sleeve in that had 6 hole punches in it already, and after buying 7 drinks you’re supposed to get the next one for free. I know there’s a sign that states all the hole punches have to be on one sleeve (I was rudely told this by another girl a few weeks back- I had not seen the sign ever because I don’t throw anything away when I’m there I just get my coffee and go, so I feel that sign is in an inconvenient place to be noticeable ESPECIALLY if employees are going to be rude about the rewards points). However, when I went in with the one sleeve and 6 hole punches and asked if I could order 2 drinks and just not have a sleeve on the second drink, I was met with eye rolling and heavy sighing and told that I could purchase both drinks and come back again to have the free drink honored. WHAT??!! What’s the point of having a rewards system if your employees don’t honor it??? It makes no sense to me why I couldn’t have gotten the second drink for free and just not get a new sleeve (which to me almost defeats the point of the “recycling” policy by giving me a brand new one when I didn’t even want it?). I think the rules of the rewards system should be posted more clearly if the employees are going to be so pressed about it. I think if you’re paying $42 ($6/7drinks) then it really shouldn’t be that big of a deal. I’ll still be going back just because I like the coffee that much, but I’ll likely just refuse a sleeve every time because of how I’ve been treated every time I ask questions about it.

Edit to add sense I can’t respond: I understand the one sleeve policy, however that’s not what my original review was mainly about. My main frustration (aside from the rudeness I’ve received from some of the girl employees) was that I did have 6 hole punches on one sleeve, and when I wanted to get 2 drinks, I was told I had to buy both drinks and then come back again for them to honor the 7 hole punch free drink policy. That makes no sense to me why I wasn’t able to buy one drink and get my friends drink for free. I love love love Lcity I love to support local business. HOWEVER This morning I came in and paid for two extra shots of expresso and peanut butter for my macchiato. She put all the flavoring and expresso in one cup and filled another to the very brim with milk and ice. She then poorly pored the expresso into the cup out of the cup all over the cup most of it went into the sink and left in the other cup . My drink at this point was wet and sticky and I barely got the product I paid for the mix was a very light brown . The two girls kept trying to savage it by pooring it into another cup and then into another . By this point I've lost the extra expresso shots . I asked for it to be remade because it was expensive I don't get a lot of free money to spoil myself . They replied . " I thought you wanted a macchiato" Wich is true but what you gave me was a poorly made latte with mostly mile. With coffee syrup and milk all over the outside of the cup . She then scoffed at me making a remark "well she's new and puckered her lips " I just wanted my coffee I've never had an experience like this before . Again I love the owner the shop and everything that it stands for . But the was poor...

I’ve been around long enough to remember when this spot was Shaw’s Hotel and Restaurant, so I’m definitely dating myself here, but I have to say—this place is a serious upgrade. We walked in, ordered our coffee, and before we even sat down, it was ready. Talk about impressive speed and service!

The next day, we came back to try the breakfast offerings and got a bagel with egg, cheese, and sausage. The best part? You can customize it with any flavor bagel and cheese, which makes for endless breakfast sandwich combos. So many options, I’ll need to come back just to try them all.

Bonus points for the hidden downstairs area that has a speakeasy vibe—couches, bars, and tables make it the perfect place to hang out and relax. It’s got that cool, laid-back atmosphere that makes you want to spend hours there.

Between the great prices, the eclectic decor, the overall atmosphere, and the amazing baristas, I 100% recommend L City. It’s definitely become one of my favorite spots...
