China Grill: A Hidden Gem in Salt Lake City Surpassing Expectations
Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area, where there's no shortage of excellent Chinese cuisine, I naturally have high expectations for Chinese food elsewhere. During our visit to Salt Lake City, we stumbled upon a modest eatery named China Grill. Despite its unassuming appearance and the food's ordinary presentation, we were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional taste that far exceeded our expectations, making our dining experience truly unforgettable.
We ordered a variety of dishes, including Singapore rice noodles, spicy beef, sour and sweet soup, and egg drop soup. Each dish was remarkable for its authentic flavor and quality, particularly the chicken in the Singapore rice noodles, which was exceptionally soft and tender—a rarity in many places. Curious about this, we learned from the owner, Mr. 颜章, that the secret lies in marinating the chicken in a mixture of soda and water for several hours or overnight. This meticulous approach to ingredient preparation showcases China Grill's passion and dedication to cooking.
More than just serving delicious meals, Mr. 颜章 was incredibly welcoming, sharing with us not only his cooking secrets but also recommendations for local attractions and his personal stories. In a world dominated by fast food and convenience, finding a place like China Grill, where there's a genuine love for food and a willingness to engage with customers on a personal level, is truly rare.
For anyone visiting Salt Lake City or locals in search of the essence of authentic Chinese cuisine, China Grill is a must-visit. It's not just about the food; it's an experience filled with warmth, shared stories, and delightful flavors.

Read moreMy family and I have been eating at china Grill for years and sometimes several times a week, Last night we went in to eat , I ordered my same meal I always order , Most of the servers know what we order before asking, But instead of good customer service we were told we couldn't order our normal choice and the meal was only available for lunch, Tried talking to the manager , She was beyond rude and told us of being there 30 plus years and We have never been able to order the meal...We went there for a meal, Not an argument. Today I took the time to look on my Credit card statement ,and this year we spent over 750 bucks at this place. I Think I'm a pretty good customer and in light of them raising prices , and simply not allowing a person to order off of there menu, and being as ignorant as possible, The manager has won.We left and will never return until the time she is no longer employed there....
Read moreThe food here is awesome - very fresh and tasty! The service at the drive-through window is a mixed bag. They have gotten my order wrong four out of 10 times. When I returned with the wrong order, a young woman tried to argue with me about what she had said when confirming my order. She also told me that certain foods come in a plastic bag and certain foods come in a brown bag, so that’s what I should watch for next time. Heck! I don’t have time to memorize what food comes in what bag or box from each fast food restaurant. They just need to up their game and get it right the first time and be gracious and make it right if they mess up. At no time did they offer a discount or a free meal or any courtesy to make up for my trouble of having to go back - my fast food ended up costing me an hour. The food is good! Just check and make sure they have gotten your order right before...
