It was my first time here, but my date had been here when it was the Laid ack Poke Shack. She said this was nothing like it used to be…
For starters… they should definitely get a bell or ringer to let the guys in the kitchen know someone came in… not a fan of waiting 3-5 minutes just to order, more on that later.
We created our own bowls, but it would be nice it the person making the bowl listened a bit more regarding sauce, but I’ll let that go. We got sides of the seaweed salad and Squid Salad and Musubi on the side.
Bowl, definitely could have used some more sauce, the rice was a bit dry and soaked it up. The tuna was good, slight fishy flavor but tolerable.
Sides, Seaweed salad was super fishy and chewy. Not as expected. The Squid Salad was super chewy and not very good. Both sides we both took one bite and let the rest go in the garbage because we couldn’t stand it…
The Musubi was made fresh after we ordered it. Took close to 30 minutes to get this… rice was way over cooked and soggy, the seaweed was so saturated you couldn’t bite through it and it overall fell apart. The filling was delicious but as a whole… not impressed.
After we ordered, and before we left, there were about 5 sets of customers that walked in, went up to the counter and after 2-3 minutes of not being acknowledged turned around and left… not sure if they’re short staffed with the 2 people I kept seeing around the back or not. While we were there 2 groups of people actually ordered aside from the 5 lost sales.
Overall I feel like a 3* rating is generous, though based on this experience… not sure if I’d be interested in going back.
With multiple missed opportunities, it will be interesting to see if these guys last doing business like this, or if it’s an issue with...
Read moreI just had the best experience, and one I regularly crave as a Salt Lake resident where (in my recent experience) it can be hard to find places where the food and service are not only excellent, but also consistent and passionate. The food was incredibly fresh and so delicious (I recommend the Aloha Bowl, which I replaced the Shrimp with Salmon, and added jalapeños, spicy mayo and chili crisp.)
The Owner (who goes by “Q”) was so friendly and eager to create a great experience and he nailed it. I’ll be coming back...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews. Maybe once a year and usually only when the food is exceptionally good or bad. In this case, I'm happy to report the former.
We eat sushi and poke bowls fairly often but this restaurant stands out for having a large variety of fresh ingredients and generous portions--enough to satisfy a 220+ lb male. For the same price as a meal at Crown Burger--a guilty pleasure--you can enjoy a much healthier, tasty poke bowl!
If you haven't tried this place, you should. And if you have, I'm sure...
