I heard great things about Ryke's Bakery at The Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office where I work. Many attorneys go in the morning to pick up donuts for work from Ryke's, so I thought it would be nice to order from them. We were planning a bridal shower for a coworker so I went in last week Tuesday, May 21 to place an order on my lunch break. I didn't want to call or order online because I wanted to make sure the cake was picked out and ordered correctly. I was able to go through the catalog and chose what design and colors I wanted. The cake was going to look beautiful. I told them I would be picking up the cake on Tuesday, May 28. I figured a week notice would be more than enough time for them to make the cake. I paid for the cake in advanced and was asked what time would I be picking up the cake on the 28th because they like to take the cake out of the freezer an hour or so before I come to pick it up. I told her the time. I arrived today, May 28 at the time I told her and I was told they didn't see my name and that I must have not placed an order. I gave them my receipt that showed I paid $69.22 on May 21. The 3 employees up front went to the back for a few minutes. Came back up and asked my name again, went to the back. Then came back up and asked if it was under a different name. I only have one name, it's the name that I gave them. They asked to see my receipt again and went to the back. After 25 minutes of being left up front alone, the girl who took my order on the 21st said the bakery in Muskegon could make the cake and I can go to Muskegon to pick it up later. I told her that would not work because the bridal shower is happening at this very moment and the attorneys need to get back to court by 1:00/1:30. She then said I could choose two quarter sheet cakes already made since I ordered a half sheet and give me a $20 refund. I said ok. I went to look at the 3 options that she gave me. One cake was red and black, one was orange, and one was a birthday cake. I asked if they were able to take off the black and red frosting and put the sage green and dusty rose pink color on the cake like I had ordered and the girl acted like I was inconveniencing her and seemed annoyed that I would ask her that. She responded,"I mean, we can. It's going to take a while." Since I felt like I was an inconvenience, I just asked for my money back. I was given my refund. Not once did any of the employees apologize or acknowledge the fact that something happened on their end. I don't even know why they didn't have the cake made. They didn't say that the order wasn't put through by the person who took the order. Nothing. A simple apology would have been nice. I think if they would have just apologized and said they forgot to submit my order, I would be ok, because I do know how to show grace and be understanding because we all make mistakes, we are human. But for them to not even apologize and acknowledge that someone dropped the ball just doesn't sit right with me. On top of that, I paid $69.22 and was only refunded $56.00. I had to go back and ask for the rest of my money. I asked for a refund, I expect to receive a full refund that I paid, not partial. They weren't even apologetic for not giving me a full refund when I went back in. Everyone at my work was pretty disappointed about the experience I had at Ryke's Bakery. That was my first time ever going there and...
Read moreHad a horrible experience with Ryke's Bakery in Holland. I had ordered a Orange Creamsicle Cake and 12 cupcakes for my daughter's College Graduation. We are not from the area but read the reviews and it sounded like a reputable establishment. I was wrong! I placed my order a week and a half prior to the Graduation at which point I paid in full. When me and my husband went to pick up the cake and cupcakes I was told the cake and cupcakes didn't arrive at the Holland store and they were trying to see if they could find where it was sent or even if it was made. They said they could get 6 cupcakes for me but that was the only solution they provided and 6 cupcakes wasn't going to feed 20+ people. They could give me a full refund, which they didn't even do right...they shorted me 2.37 which isn't much but it just added insult to injury. I left there with no cake, no cupcakes and was very upset. I was left scrabbling to find a cake! I ended up going to Sam's Club and they were very helpful! The cake was beautiful and ready when they said...
Read moreThe Muskegon and Grand Haven locations have lack of communication, poor costumer service and staff that aren’t knowledgeable of their job. I went in 3 days prior to order a 8in round bday cake. I got different feedback from each staff member. They can’t keep staff, and I was informed they need a 4 day notice to process my order 😂.
I will NEVER return or refer anyone to Rykes. I went to Costco and the customer service from Leigha, Erica, and Alyssa was great. I ordered a 10inch white round cake with vanilla cheesecake mousse filling. They don’t need a 4 day notice. Rykes stated they couldn’t process my order with a 3 day notice for a 8in round cake. Lol 😂 I ended up with a 10in with less of a notice and it was way cheaper. Rykes doesn’t have a policy stating it must be a 4 day notice and the staff was rude. Definitely lost my customer service!!!! I was informed the owner doesn’t talk to the customers and he only sees his staff once a month. Still waiting on Shirley to...
