Russ' Round-Up: A 5-Star Family Feast! Let me tell you, folks, dining at Russ' was like hitting a culinary jackpot for this fam of six. We rolled in hungry and left grinning, bellies full of good food and hearts warmed by top-notch service.
The Food: Oh, the food! We tackled the menu like a champion team. The roast beef was a homerun – melt-in-your-mouth tender, with a gravy that danced on your tongue. My wife, who's a roast beef connoisseur (it's a thing, trust me), declared it "the best she's had in years." The double cheeseburger was a juicy behemoth, perfectly stacked and satisfying. My son inhaled it with the zeal of a teenage vacuum cleaner. The chicken strips and tender chicken were crispy perfection, and the mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy bliss (my other son practically licked the bowl clean). Even the fries, those humble potato soldiers, were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside – a testament to Russ' culinary prowess.
The Service: But the star of the show (besides the food, obviously) was our waitress. She was a master of her craft, balancing efficiency and friendliness with the grace of a seasoned pro. She anticipated our needs, kept the water glasses full, and even cracked jokes that had us snorting into our napkins (my wife and I, anyway – the kids just rolled their eyes at our silliness). Her quick wit and sarcastic edge (which is practically a birthright in my family) made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
The Verdict: Five stars, no question. Russ' delivered on every front – delicious food, a welcoming atmosphere, and service that made us feel like family. We'll definitely be back to conquer more menu items, and hopefully, catch another round of witty banter from our favorite waitress. If you're looking for a family-friendly feast with a side of laughter, look no further than Russ'. You won't be disappointed!
P.S. To the waitress, if you're reading this, you rock! Thanks for making our night...
Read moreService is fine. However, the food has changed over the years. Some of Russ' signature stuff isn't even available. It is sad. Since I was quite young, I found that some of patrons (a few, not all), within the restaurant - locals, would fix a gaze on me or my (since passed) family and stare at me (us) throughout our entire meal - never averting the seemingly hateful and judgmental stare. I am a Holland native as was my father. What makes weirdos do this? They didn't know us at all - complete strangers. I quit going there, decades ago, even though my folks (when they were living) put up with it! Usually, lonely and unhappy pious customers, such as these are truly sad people. Still, why did it always happen, for the most part, at Russ'? What did they know about me? NOTHING! Since they were older folks, I'm guessing they have passed by now. I later decided to get salads to go, since the dressing and croutons were so good! However, I've since learned that those items aren't available any longer. I was dieting, for some years, so I really don't know. I had a "friend" who loves to exaggerate and lie about random things, tell me this. I miss the croutons and blue cheese dressing but otherwise, forget it. You TRULY cannot beat their pies! They are GREAT! I don't get them because I have to watch my blood sugar now. I truly hope that Russ' is still as good as it once was (sans the hostile, relentless...
Read morewaitress was very nice, place is very clean and quiet. Had a great table by the fireplace.
Food was so-so this time. Disappointed.
I got the hot beef sandwich and was warned ahead of time to insist to the waitress to make sure it was hot because they have a reputation for the sandwich always being cold .
I just kind of shook my head in disbelief and wasn't going to complain about food I hadn't received yet.
Well two of us at the table ordered the hot beef sandwich and to my surprise they both came to the table less than lukewarm. I would say even cold.
One of the sandwiches had to be sent back to the kitchen twice to be warmed up and all they did was microwave it, And it still came back too cold the first time. I can microwave at home and not spend $80 for the lunch I spent. (Family)
The second sandwich was also cold, barely lukewarm.
So I was disappointed and surprised, after all it's in the title: Hot beef sandwich.
Even the mashed potatoes and gravy on it were barely lukewarm.
So I don't know who's making the decisions in the kitchen for the hot beef and turkey sandwiches but you are not cooking it hot enough,
you need to make adjustments since you have a reputation which proved to be truthful of these sandwiches being...
