I’ve been here in Cville for more than 30 years and we have not had a Vietnamese restaurant until now. I’ve had their phở, bún bò huế and I will reserve my judgment for now. Just like every new restaurants, they need time to settle in to be fantastic and Nguyen’s Kitchen have potential to do greatness.
Today I decided go with the pork vermicelli bowl and I am glad I did. The bowl came with bountiful of delicious grilled pork with a tiny hint of lemongrass (wish it had more). The vermicelli (bún we Việt call it) have a very nice bouncy texture, and it mixed in with the lettuce, bean sprouts and scallions to make this an authentic Vietnamese bún thịt bò. (Tip - look for the spicy fish sauce jar by the checkout counter to send this dish over the top!)
The husband and wife team is amazing, very helpful and always serves with a smile. If you’re new to Vietnamese food, please give Nguyen’s Kitchen a try and forget Pho3Pho. I am offended that place have Vietnamese dish on their menu and it is not even authentic.
Oh by the way, Nguyen is a vey common last name in Vietnam like Smith and Jones here in USA and I am in no way affiliated with...
Read moreThis little mom and pop shop pho restaurant isa Charlottesville gem! We ordered takeout and the food was so fragrant, aromatic, and simply irresistible. The fresh, heartwarming pho is boss.
The pho broth is a knockout, seriously. All the traditional veggie garnishes, plus perfectly portioned dressing. For my fiancé, we ordered the thin sliced steak with ox tail pho. He was in such a happy place, and he typically doesn’t like rice noodles.
I ordered the pork banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) and it was nearly as delicious as Eden Center varieties in Northern Virginia. I’m so happy I don’t have to head out of town anymore. Yum!
We started off with a dim sum appetizer of steamed crystal shrimp dumplings and Japanese octopus dough balls called Takoyaki. Both were good but the pho is still the star of the show.
Get yourself some tasty eats from Nguyen Kitchen now! The space may be small, but the owners cook with a big heart. What a...
Read moreA family working hard. Nice folks. Ample amount of meat in the pho. Curious and wondered why only 3 tables but an unnecessarily humongous kitchen. Everything was plastic, plastic, plastic... No real dishes or utensils and no recycling at all. The sign says 'extremely hot soup' but it came in a plastic bowl and even the spoon for soup is plastic. I can understand this if we ordered it to go but we dined in! 😱 We all have been informed enough by now about how harmful plastic is to us. it's 2022 approaching 2023 and for our health (I care-cancer survivor) and the environment, this doesn't seem right at all. I just hope this was temporary because their dishwasher was broken...
