Old San Juan Bakery — Restaurant in Holyoke

I remember as a young kid growing up in Holyoke. On the weekends we knew it was Breakfast time. The spot to go was Old San Juan Bakery. I would go with my Parents or Grandparents to grab pan de agua.When arriving and walking in you felt the love and the passion for what they did for business. And their food at that time was to perfection. Smiles laughters and Greets to every customer that came to show support. However still working on point to complete customer satisfaction. Their Bread was the talk of the City let’s put it this way all over Western Mass and beyond. I’m sure perhaps it’s still like this today, But today 2025 I don’t see the love I don’t see the passion. I don’t feel or see any kind of Team work that there was way back when. I’m just being honest and don’t get me wrong this is the same way at other Puerto Rican Bakeries, Their main focus now is about what they can make for the buck and get out now next. I can continue to type about what I feel about San Juan Bakery Brand today, But I think I’ve spoken enough. My advice for them is bring that feeling back into your business. People complain that the girls are slow and that they don't treat the customers right. The truth of the matter is that the customer believes that they are always right and think they can treat the employee like garbage because they are not fast enough for them. Well it's not the employee that is slow but the new system of registers they put in. The girls only give attitude when it is given to them. Because for some reason everyone that walks in to the bakery feel the need to always be talking down to these girls. They are not their to take any ones abuse , they are there to attend to you. May be if you treat them with respect and understanding you'll get some back. After all they are human and have their moments too. It's not true that there are always 4 girls and only 1 working. The other girls work in the kitchen in the back or down stairs making pastries. Yes there should be more girls in the front bit that doesn't excuse the abuse these girls have to put up with on a daily basis. Be kind to get kindness back. The bread is so fresh, the sugar donuts were so fresh. Like any bakery your best bet is to go early morning. Had a sandwich and it was delicious, there was a little wait but it is to be expected when you are getting fresh food. The customer service was great, the young lady was sweet and the woman who was preparing the sandwiches did the best she could to keep up as they are very busy.
