Verbano Ristorante Italiano — Restaurant in Honolulu

I was actually very disappointed in this restaurant especially since I was expecting substantially better based on the reviews I read raving about how good the food is.

We ordered takeout and the portions were tiny especially for the prices. For a combination plate of linguine advertised with meatball and sausage, there was one medium sized meatball and a quarter link of rubbery sausage on a small amount of spaghetti.

We were excited that fresh homemade bread was part of the meal until we tasted the bread. It tasted like it was homemade but I have had far better food prepared by culinary students in high school classes.

Last but certainly not least, we ordered the calamari as an appetizer and as my wife bit into one of the 11 measly pieces of fried calamari that we got, she found a fish bone when it got wedged between her teeth & in her gums. We called the restaurant to ask what they make the calamari from because calamari doesn't have bones and they didn't seem to understand what the issue was.

I don't typically write reviews, but I really wanted to make sure they knew what our experience was like and why we will never return there or recommend...

I was looking for a nice cozy place to eat and this restaurant hit the spot. The food was delicious. My BF had the chicken Parm and said it was pounded and breaded to perfection. I had the shrimp scampi and the sauce was lovely. Just right without a greasy too much butter flavor. The shrimp were almost jumbo size and flavorful with extra spirits of lemon on the side. The parmesan to top everything off was not overpowering and added a little umph. The dessert was yummy but frozen. The prices are not too steep and match the portion size. Excellent food! I have been here a number of times and gotten the fettuccini with added vegetables with a light white sauce. It is so very tasty. Also added to my delightful experience a slice of their ice coffee and chocolate cream pie and was out if this world! My friend always gets the bruschetta which she just loved. I saw a negative review on Trip Advisor but this has never been my experience at this restaurant so I would not let this keep my from enjoying a great meal at Verbano’s.
