Yes! New favorite place and I will return as soon as I can! It reminds me of Japan, impeccably clean and the dividers in place for Covid-19 are crystal clear and do not detract from the ambience. Servers are professional, attentive, and very nice. Plates cleared quickly and a new plate given each course, dishes came out promptly, my sake cup was never empty as the servers were swift. Every dish was skillfully prepared, you can feeling the thought and pride gone into it. Everything about my experience was clean, quality, enjoyable, I can't wait to return.
miso eggplant: Beautiful! Eggplant is my favorite food and this steaky eggplant is wonderfully soft and the sauce is delicious!
Campacci: Fresh! The fish is so quality and the sauce is just perfect. The micro greens add a herby flavor, the dish is balanced so well with the citrus zest and the greens.
Scallop & mushroom dished: it's baked and served on "dynamite rice", reminds me of a risotto. Delicious, creamy, spicy, and filling, absolutely a unique dish!
Various sushi: all were quality and beautifully prepared including the spicy ahi hand roll. I always get tamago nigiri and theirs is one of my favorites- perfect taste.
Desert menu has a few options, one is a cake of the day from nearby Lady M cake shop. We got this (cheesecake this day) and chose black sesame mochi ice cream. Perfect ending!
We also had a choice from the sake list and it was served in a glass bucket of ice. The server kept our cups...
Read moreIn Dec-2021- So Google map let me review only once, so I edited my previous post to write this time’s review. We came back this place and definitely disappointed. The Omakase Suhi? I forgot the name but Sushi was grade down so much and didn’t feel same one. Or maybe different but didn’t have option to chose anyway. And in May’s review, I wrote the waiter was’t great and I felt again. If they want to be an expensive, 5star restaurant, they need to educate the server well. She asked me if she can take the plate even food were still there. Why? Did she want to clean up more than we finish their food? I really don’t understand why she wants to clean our table so quick. Maybe she was sending a message that we need to leave? And there was a lady who just came to started to talk to sushi chef and server right middle of restaurant, acted like she was in her friend’s house. I don’t think in this price point, they shouldn’t let her do it. Anyway, we won’t come back. There are so many Sushi restaurant in Waikiki that are same price point, same grade sushi and much better service. In May 2021-It was such an amazing dinner! I’m not sure if I can get that grade of sushi in Japan... Sushi rice, Fish, everything was great. Only thing bothers me was one of the server took our plate without asking even “gari” was still on the plate. Other than that, that was perfect. We had...
Read moreA cozy Japanese restaurant inside of the hotel. The owner came out to open the door which is also the hotel's main entrance. You can reach the restaurant by walking through the hotel, passing guest rooms and a pool.
Interior is not super fancy as it is located in an old building. The ceiling is very low and it feels like entering a cave but pretty comfortable and casual place.
Staffs were nice but sometimes they paid too much attention to customers. They were not just watching you but also listening to what you said about the food. Giving very very careful attention would be better than nothing but I feel somewhat being watching everything.
The menus were various and a little bit pricey but the quality was good. 10 10-piece sashimi plate was around $40 and Hamachi Wasabi Carpaccio was $24 but came with only 6 "sliced" pieces. The vegetable tempura was crispy, fresh, and delicious too. Chicken Teriyaki was nothing special it was decorated and tasted like a homemade dish.
Various types of sake are available. We had Hakkaisan Daiginjo and ordered Highball with Toki Whiskey from Suntory. There are no Highballs on the menu, so you should ask to order.
Overall, this is a hidden gem-ish place in busy, expensive Waikiki. I would recommend Wasabi Bistro if you want to have a decent Japanese...
