We choose the Patient 57 room to do with our daughters 9 &11. I can't say it was super family friendly. We had the option to do without lights to keep it spooky and did. However, one of them wanted the lights on and hated the spooky music. (I loved the vibe). This is the 3rd escape room I have done and this one was by far the most difficult. We took extra clues and probably got half way through before time ran out. Imo escape rooms are sort of difficult in general unless you do them often and get on a roll. Either way, I'm giving it a 5. The theme was so cool and very creative ways to open things (not just a lock and key over and over).

If you park underneath the building, expect to pay $6 for validation at front desk. You can also park at the zoo and walk 10 min to get there. I only did 2 rooms so far, room 13 and the Hatch. Both were lots of fun and challenging. I would suggest a group of 4 to 5 people for one room. Any more than that can get a little out of hand. You'd spend more time wondering what/where/how your teammate had found the clues than figuring stuff out. The staff would be there explaining the rules to you if any should apply. Three clues and some free clues will also be given to you when you and your team feel lost.

AUSTIN WAS SO GOOD ME AND HIM ARE NOW BESTIES HE WAS THE BEST šŸ¤žšŸ¤ž. SUPER FUN AND VERY ENJOYABLE FOR ANY AGE, AUSTIN IS LITERALLY THE BEST. In all seriousness, the puzzles were very engaging, out of the box, and required everyone in the group to help and participate. On top of that, the staff members were super friendly! Totally recommend for groups of all ages and sizes!

Oh, let me tell you about Julian, the game host at Breakout Escape Room in Waikiki! Julian was absolutely fantastic and made the whole experience unforgettable.

From the moment we walked in, Julian greeted us with a warm and friendly smile. His enthusiasm and energy were infectious, instantly setting a positive and exciting tone for our escape room adventure. He took the time to explain the rules of the game, the storyline behind the room, and made sure we were all ready and pumped up for the challenge ahead.

Throughout the experience, Julian's hosting skills shone brightly. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable about the room's puzzles and intricacies but also had a knack for keeping the momentum going. He offered helpful hints just at the right moments when we needed a little nudge without giving away too much.

Julian's passion for escape rooms and gaming was evident in the way he interacted with our group. He created an immersive atmosphere, drawing us into the world of the escape room with his storytelling and engaging personality. It felt like we were characters in our very own adventure, all thanks to his superb hosting skills.

What impressed us the most was Julian's ability to balance his role as a game host. He made sure to keep things challenging enough to push us but also ensured we were having a great time. His friendly demeanor and positive encouragement were a perfect blend that made us feel both supported and motivated to succeed.

Even when we faced some difficult puzzles, Julian maintained a level of excitement and encouragement that kept our spirits high. He fostered an environment where teamwork thrived, and we all felt like we were working together towards a common goal.

After successfully escaping the room, Julian took the time to congratulate our group and celebrate our victory with us. His genuine excitement for our success made the whole experience even more rewarding.

Overall, Julian's role as a game host at Breakout Escape Room in Waikiki was nothing short of exceptional. He truly enhanced the entire escape room adventure with his charisma, knowledge, and passion for what he does. If you ever have the chance to experience an escape room with Julian as your game host, consider yourself lucky – it's guaranteed to be an incredible and...

Our group of 4 love escape rooms and do them in just about every city we visit. We chose to try Breakout Waikiki’s Patient 57 room during our family vacation.

The experience was fun overall, but seemed poorly designed. It felt like the room creator accidentally bulk ordered four digit padlocks and had to come up with puzzles for them all. This meant that, despite there being a lot of cool and creative puzzles, they all took a similar form and were easy to mix up with another. This thing has numbers, and so does this thing, oh and this thing…. And now we have a four digit code, yay!! Try it on all 5 available locks real quick to see what that random puzzle was for in the first place.

There were also several puzzles that had pieces locked behind multiple other puzzles, but the pieces had no indication that you were still missing elements. This meant it was easy to burn time trying to solve a puzzle you weren’t ready for because it seemed you had everything.

Another issue we faced were some general maintenance issues. At a couple points my team successfully solved a puzzle but thought we must had made a mistake simple because the new unlock did not open properly or lacked any indication that something had changed.

Our guide was fairly apathetic and was very quick to give unprompted clues. I feel this is indicative that they have seen many people run headfirst into these design issues and aren’t sure what to do about them. I hope management can step in to make improvements. Some really simple things would go a long way to make this a top notch escape experience. Unique puzzle solutions (not just 4 digit codes), indicators like colored lights for when elements change, and ensuring it is obvious when elements are missing and/or do not belong together. With these changes I think everyone would have a much better...

A disappointing escape room experience was further ruined by a surly employee.

My wife and I have been introducing our kids to escape room experiences, and this was the third one we have brought them too. We chose Breakout Waikiki's easiest room accordingly: the one based on stopping a runaway train. We made it half an hour before walking out.

Simply put, the puzzles didn't work.

The puzzle concepts were easy; the room difficulty rating was fair. But poor calibration in trigger mechanisms, possibly caused by over abuse from previous customers or lack of maintenance from the company, led to everything failing or requiring luck to open.

For anyone needing tactile descriptions to believe this review, the first puzzle required pulling train horns in a sequence based on clues. The second puzzle required spinning dials to specific numbers. The dials especially were very poorly maintained and lacked calibration accuracy. They would have required more luck than skill to trigger a lock and are why we walked out.

I'm now seeing all the reviews that comment on the dingy-ness. I'm in full agreement.

We kept asking our watcher for help and got slow, and pretty useless messages when the clues and trigger mechanisms were so poor.

After growing obviously frustrated with the experience, we requested our money back. First time ever that I have done that. And this is where the manager acted like we failed and were failures on this unfortunate room. We were frustrated. He was insulting.

Save your money and go...
