O Sushi — Restaurant in Hoover

I'm a sushi lover. Actually I'm a food lover, and sushi is just one of the many things I really just love. So, when my buddy who doesn't like fish of any kind said "I found this great little sushi place" I didn't really believe him, but I let him take me. Absolutely loved it. The atmosphere is very much a stereotypical Japanese restaurant, but it has the best ambiance that a restaurant of its size and purpose can offer. Natural and artificial lighting make the place almost have a surreal glow, with contemporary music in the background at a low, but audible, volume. The service was excellent. Refills were plentiful and conversations polite and considerate. I could drone on about the service. but all you really need to know is that it was wonderful. The food, however, deserves praise. It is among the freshest sushi I have ever eaten. Prepared right in front (or beside) you, as you order it, it is by far some of the most delicious sushi I have ever eaten -- and if you go at lunch, it's sold at a wonderful price. Service was well below acceptable. What seemed like a new employee could not remember drink orders and lost our order. My party waited for 45 minutes before being informed that 'the kitchen' lost our order. The manager continually pointed to our table to have us waited on but was never waited on, outside the initial drinks being served. We had asked for a refill, that never came while she assisted tables that just walked in. We witnessed her playing with the curtain and back area items before serving drinks to another table. When we were approached about the lost order, we said we were leaving and to pay for the drinks. It is appalling that after this experience we had to pay for drinks and was not asked to make it right. If employees are new, there should be someone watching over to ensure service does not fall below standards. Giving this a "star" at all makes me sad.

It doesn't take much for me to be happy at a restaurant. I'm extremely easy to please. This is the first review I've ever given a restaurant, only to save others from a horrible experience. I'm so not a complainer. But this place is absolutely horrendous. Our server was so rude it was like lucifer being your waitress. We got an appetizer that came half way through our meal. It was the first time in my life that I have ever sent any food back, but due to the horrible experience we were having, I had no choice but to send the appetizer back. I don't know how long this place has been in business but I can assure you that if they give the same service to everyone else that they gave me, it won't be long at all.
