Taproot Cafe — Restaurant in Hoover

I like the chalkboard that specifies the local suppliers. I like the airy, clean interior, and I really enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. The veggi on sourdough was tasty, maybe the mushrooms had a tad too much vinegar, but overall a happy, full-flavored sandwich that I can recommend. The calories of the lunch are balanced with the needs of an office worker but will not sustain a person that does physical labor. Order here refers to a touch screen that lets you pick and choose from the menu, offers additions, and lets you fine tune your order. I like to have a person in front of me that I can ask for clarification or for some register banter. There was quite a wait at the order screen and for the food but I got there a few minutes after noon and probably hit their busiest time. The one star deduction is mostly due to the fact that they don't offer water and you have to buy $1.50 bottled (disposable) water. As a suggestion. My friend Michael Frye asked if he could take me to lunch! What a great friend and believer! I was working at the Hoover YMCA and had opened the Branch that morning and had picked up a stack of Hoover magazines at the front door. On the front page was Reggie and Michelle Torbor; A couple I had signed up at the YMCA a few months back. My friend Michael came in and asked where I wanted to eat and I said TAPROOT, after I read the article and browsed the menu. Michael grinned and we met there at noon. We got there and everyone knew Michael and it seemed he was a regular. Turns out, the Torbors and Fryes were very close as their sons played basketball together. I ordered the chicken pesto; spicy hummus; and pasta salad! What flavor combinations! Great staff and atmosphere and you are missing out on a gem if you do not visit there! I absolutely love this establishment. Everything that I have eaten has been phenomenal. The quality is definitely top notch. I love the Chicken Pesto sandwich; Veggie Grill sandwich; Pineapple, Carrot, and Ginger Smoothie; Broccoli Salad; Sweet Potato Salad; Hummus; and last yet most definitely not least the Mushroom Soup. I drive one way over 50 minutes to enjoy what this restaurant has to offer. Taproot has a wonderful staff, as well. Freda and Destiny have a wonderful sense of community as coworkers that can be felt by the customers. On my recent trip this past Thursday, Cain was working.
