First things first, white people definitely made all this food and these reviews on Google have lost it. Come to DFW and I’ll buy y’all some real Mexican food. My husband and I were driving through from DFW on our way to Memphis for the World BBQ championship. Because we’re about to be indulging in BBQ for 3 days straight, we agreed that we’d get some Mexican food in as our road meal. Enter El Agave’s. They’ve got like 300 something reviews on Google, and, while small number wise, decent reviews on Yelp so we risked it. The decor is great. Very bright and reminiscent of classic Mexican restaurants, so I can’t be mad at that. What can I be mad at you ask? The fact that the photos on here, and the flyers in the restaurant itself make it look like they have margaritas. Spoiler alert: they don’t. The waiters said, “oh we just put our lemonade and fruit punch in margarita glasses!” What kind of lying business is this?! Those of us on road trips who don’t have to do any driving would really love to have a margaritas, no some damn lemonade in margaritas glass. Ok, I’m done being bitter about that for now. The chips were hot and fresh. The queso was hot, but was legit just melted cheese. No spice of any sort. If you get this, order a side of their green sauce and mix a little in. As a Mexican woman writing this review, just trust me on that. The salsa was marinara sauce serviced in a salsa bowl (noticing a trend of deceptive techniques?) and the guac was simply mashed avocado with no type of seasoning, onions, tomatoes...nada. My husband had the shrimp quesadillas and said the shrimp was good but he was 99% sure they were made with American cheese 🙄. I ordered a side of fajita beef and bell peppers (because my trust had been broken too many times at this point) and the beef was saltier than the damn ocean. Peppers were fine, but the meat was strugglin. Overall, very underwhelming, but we’re not in Texas anymore, so we should have known...
Read moreMy son and I chose El Agaves for our lunch today. This was our first visit. I was looking forward to great service and great food. I have heard nothing but good, until we get there! I was very disappointed. We were seated immediately, but it was several minutes before a waitress even came to ask if we wanted drinks. Once she did, it was several minutes before we even got them. Now, I would expect this if the restaurant were busy, but there were less than five guests in the building. It took almost a half hour before we got our plates and we didnt even get both our meals at the same time. I had to wait for my son to get his so we could eat together. He ordered a cheeseburger and French fries. What he got was a burger with cheep dollar store cheese and his fries were fried potatoes. And my seafood taco salad was a joke. I also ordered a white queso that I didnt even get until I got my regular order. But the waitress did not charge me for my queso, Thank you to her for that, but those cooks need to step up there game!
Not a happy customer, and I don't plan on visiting...
Read moreWe were promptly seated and waited on. The problems started with the chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like cold marinara sauce. It was a really strange flavor. Instead of cilantro it tasted like it had oregano in it. There was no Mexican flavor in it at all, just Italian seasoning. We ordered queso and guacamole as an appetizer. The queso was just melted pepper jack cheese. The guacamole was ok.
I ordered the Agave Salmon aand my husband ordered the Agave Nachos. Our food arrived very quickly. I was a little shocked at the color of the salmon. It looked really grey. I eat salmon a lot so it's not like I don't know what it looks like. It was really tough. Salmon should be tender and flaky. This dish did have a wonderful corn salsa on the plate. That was really the highlight of the meal. My husband said his nachos were nachos. Nothing special.
I have to say that the service was great. The young lady that waited on us, Candy, was very nice and never let our...
