A 2nd Cup is not an ordinary coffee shop. It is also a federal nonprofit organization to help spread awareness and end human trafficking in Houston, apparently one of the most intense regions of human trafficking according to the Department of Justice. Because of their mission and cause, I highly rate this coffee shop and applaud their passion to help others rather than help their own business.
Besides that, this is a rather larger coffee shop compared to most others inside the loop. Though still on weekends, tables can still be completely filled. The atmosphere is good for either a study environment (not too loud music or talking) or a chill place to catch up with a friend over coffee. The seating can be uncomfortable depending on which chair you're using as there are not cushions on the seats. I noticed the white round looking ones are more comfortable, while some others do not have backs. This could be seen as good or bad depending on the person, I know some people prefer uncomfortable seating because it helps them focus better while studying (not me though!). There also seems to be plenty of outlets, I noticed some power strips around the middle tables area, which is also a plus for studying.
The coffee itself, if you recognize the similarity of the taste, that is because they use the coffee beans from Boomtown, which uses local and ethically sourced coffee farms (another plus). So you can get the Boomtown coffee taste without the smell of cigars! I ordered the mocha while my boyfriend ordered a chai. Although it was just average tasting, I can see myself coming...
Read moreAh, A 2nd Cup — where your caffeine addiction literally fuels justice. If Tony Stark ever decided to trade in the Iron Man suit for an apron and an espresso machine, this is the kind of place he’d build. Sleek, purposeful, and on a mission — not to save the universe this time, but to fight human trafficking, one cup at a time.
Let’s start with the name — A 2nd Cup. Clever, right? Because yes, you’ll be going back for a second cup of their dark roast magic, but more importantly, every sip supports survivors seeking their second chance. I looked into my coffee and had a full-on hero moment: cape optional, but emotional impact confirmed.
The atmosphere? Imagine your favorite cozy study nook and your favorite community hub had a beautiful, socially-conscious baby. It’s warm, vibrant, and just buzzing with good vibes (and strong Wi-Fi). Whether you’re there to work, journal, or just silently judge people who drink decaf, you’ll feel right at home.
Now, food — here’s where I messed up. I didn’t get any. Big mistake. HUGE. The menu spans the Southern soul of chicken and waffles, all the way to that LA-inspired avocado toast that whispers, “I do yoga and own a compost bin.” And if those divide the table, their paninis are here to broker peace — hot, melty, diplomatic sandwiches.
So if you want your morning ritual to mean more — if you want your latte with a shot of purpose — A 2nd Cup is the superhero coffee shop you didn’t know you needed. Come for the coffee. Stay for the cause. And maybe next time…...
Read moreI'd been wanting to visit 2nd cup for a time. I finally got to last week and it was great. There's plenty of parking for starters. You know that alone can effect how you feel upon showing up somewhere. Edit: I've tried going twice since my first visit and sadly have had to go elsewhere because I couldn't find a spot to park. The moment you enter you see a variety of products for sale that contributes to the cause 2nd cup is all about; they are helping to stop human trafficking and help survivors effected by it. Near the products you can also see a list of organizations they're working with. There is plenty of seating. There are long tables everywhere, at least two couches, and an area where you can sit facing the windows. Some of the seating won't have a place to charge, so I'd ask about that before you sit down if you need to. I found that where I sat there wasn't is why I mention that. This place has a really good vibe in general. The employees were very friendly adding to that. The drink I had (mocha latte) was tasty. The natural lighting pouring in from outside was lovely. It just had such a relaxing feeling overall there. I can't wait to...
