OMG, have a seat y’all.
I checked in on Sunday for my 4 night stay. Front desk person told me there would be 3 total in my room which includes someone who does work/trade. Fine.
I get in my room, which is tiny and there is a girl already in the room sitting at the desk. My actual bedroom at home is bigger than this room that supposed to sleep 6. (Depending on how much luggage people bring, it can be cramped really fast.) My suitcase couldn’t fit under the bed so I had to put it near the locker nearby. I needed to get something out my backpack so I hung it on the bunk railing because I don’t put my backpack on my bed out of habit. By then, the work/trade person walks in and asks if my stuff near the locker (at the head of my bed) and I replied yes. She told me that the other girl wouldn’t be able to get in her locker. She then asks me if the girl needs to get in her locker, could she move it which I replied sure. Mine, you, the girl reading didn’t care nor was trying to get in her locker. Also the girl reading had 4 huge suitcases stuffed in one corner at the foot of my bed. Then she goes to tell me that I couldn’t keep my backpack hanging because the reading girl would need to get in the bed. Mind you, reading girl is reading at the desk not GAF. I replied, “I’m aware,” as I continue to get my toiletries out my backpack. I immediately was annoyed because I JUST got to the room and I judge this work/trade cares more about the comfort of someone else who clearly doesn’t care than making sure my stay is also just as comfortable. This passive aggressiveness is what I expect of white women so I was like whatever. I’m just here to lay my head while I’m here for work.
I notice there’s a fridge and microwave in the hostel, which is something I don’t normally see because many don’t want you eating in the room. There was a muffin on the microwave that may have been there my entire stay which made me nervous because that can bring unwanted critters.
Bathroom did not look like it was cleaned by housekeeping as I could see it looked like it hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned and wiped down. Not one day during my stay did it look like someone cared about their job and cleaned this space in a decent fashion. (My granny was a housekeeper, and I know what it supposed to look and feel like as my granny kept her home just as spic and span.)
Tuesday rolls at in. I’m just getting back in from work and I’m on the phone with a friend. I notice a new woman in the room in her bed also on the phone. She had a walker near the bed, so that let me know that she may require assistance. Her phone is so loud that I can hear both ends of the conversation which boiled down to her needing to get her life together and stop worrying about Liomey. She gets off phone with woman and calls Liomey and tells her to grab the woman’s clothes and wash them so she can pick them up. The woman then tells her that there are some leggings with boo-boo in them and to clean them out and wash them. Liomey, who sounds like she is 13-16, replies “uuuhhhh, just throw them away,” and woman replies she got those leggings for $10 and she wasn’t getting rid of them so clean them out and wash them.
My mind is like 👀 because this woman obviously has no shame and nothing to lose if she can have this type of conversation in front of strangers. I threw Florida water on my bed and on me because the energy in the room was heavy. I took my shower and pittled around until I went to sleep. Another girl arrived before 11.
Around 3 in the morning, I notice the woman with the walker get out her bed to head to the bathroom. She didn’t use her walker going to and fro but noticed she didn’t wash her hands and she moved quickly to her bed. Then I hear all this commotion. The work/trade is yelling, “OMFG” and starts moving throughout the room like a bill in a China shop. I tell her is almost 4 in the morning what is going on and she screams there’s sh$t everywhere…on the toilet…on the floor…on the...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE- BE WARNED If you are a woman, do not stay in the women’s only hostel room especially. There’s a volunteer that lives in that room without disclosing that she works there, even after asking what she does for work. She sends information and pictures of your stay to the company’s owner. During our stay, I and my friend both booked separate beds in the same room and were sitting in bed watching a movie on a phone. She came in and informed us that we were breaking the policy that two people were not allowed to sit on the bed together (despite the websites rules only stating “RESERVATIONS ARE FOR 1 GUEST IN 1 TWIN BED”)- regardless, we moved out of the bed and laid in our separate beds. but this was the first we were made aware she had worked there after already staying a couple days. when i then asked the worker, named Capitola, why she didn’t disclose she worked there, she claimed she didn’t have to. We went to the front desk to inform them what happened. (Keep in mind- BPhostels rents/buys room from hotels and transforms the hotel rooms into hostels). and they suggest I talk to the owner, Marco because the hotel isn’t able to give refunds or rooms without their confirmation. The card states that we are able to call, text, or email with issues. After the owner stated via text that a room change or refund is not possible “due to policy” (see attached screenshot). He then claimed he was notified (by Capitola) that there were visitors brought into the room despite the fact that both of us were renting a bed in the same room. He then back tracked saying he will talk to her because we both have beds in that room. In the screenshot he also states that there were no other bed or rooms available. After getting him to call me, he then agreed to switch us rooms anyway, contradicting what he just said. In this call, he also mentioned that Capitola had sent information that me and my friend’s drinks we had bought claiming we took up too much space (we had two 6 packs of cans- not in fridge, a bottle of sprite, and an alcohol bottle- in the fridge). I then informed him that his staff had scattered items all around the room (which is in fact, against their policy), and he said he couldn’t trust me over her so he wasn’t interested in seeing the pictures, so I’ve attached them here. Marco mentioned that Capitola does have a name tag and should have it visible, yet she is an “undercover volunteer” who is set in these hostels to ensure policies are being followed, once again contradicting himself. Not to mention, none of the lights worked, items were glued down to walls and tables, and despite their being a worker living in the room, those things do not get replaced. We ended up totally leaving the hostel space and booked with the hotel- (Heights House- who we do recommend) because of how uncomfortable BPhostels made us. Extremely scammy, they do not disclose information, and refuse to give...
Read moreBposhtels Houston. Rooms were clean. Fresh towel every day. Minimal secure storage available in the room. Service at front counter was hit and miss depending on who you got, but overall good. No breakfast one day, no compensation or explanation. Thumping DJ parties (one night with a laser light show) at night from approx 5pm to between 1030pm and 2am. This would not have been an issue had it been mentioned at the time of booking and I could have been prepared, not much fun after 24hrs of travelling. This also meant unless you joined into the party the outside area and pool were pretty unusable from 5pm. Food from the actual motel was really good. Pool was lovely, until after the thumping DJ pool parties when it was cloudy and smelt odd. Location for a hostel was ridiculous. No choice but to Uber everywhere or take the train at night into a neighbourhood we were repeatedly told not to walk around in, esp after dark. The “free gym pass” is a 10-15 min Uber ride to get to the gym. Unless you have a car spend the extra and stay in town. Overall it felt a little misrepresented in the advertised details when I booked compared to what it was. And not being refundable is now a red flag. Houston city was cool, other than NASA def the least touristy city so far, which...
