Last night's visit to "Austin's Backyard," a club celebrated for its place in the heart of Houston's dynamic nightlife scene, promised an evening of joy and memorable encounters. Instead, what unfolded was a narrative starkly misaligned with the welcoming and vibrant ambiance Houston's bars and clubs are known for. The night turned into a disconcerting experience that necessitates a discussion on patron safety and respect within such entertainment venues.
As I enjoyed the view from the second floor, an area that required an additional fee for its promised enhanced experience, my evening took an unexpected turn. Without any provocation, a security guard approached, insisting I leave immediately. Confused, I sought an explanation, asking multiple times for a reason, which was never provided. The encounter quickly escalated as the guard physically manhandled me, leaving marks on my arm from his grip, and forcefully escorted me out. This is Harassment !!!!!!!!!!!!
This ordeal didn't end upon my exit. Outside, in front of "Austin's Backyard" and other bars, police officers awaited, who, upon seeing me, began to confront me. Despite my repeated inquiries about the situation, they offered no explanations, only vague threats of arrest and commands to leave the area immediately. It's important to highlight that at no point was my behavior disruptive; I was neither intoxicated nor causing a disturbance.
The entire incident – from the unjust removal to the physical aggression and the threats by law enforcement – paints a worrying picture of what could occur within the walls of "Austin's Backyard." The lack of communication, the unnecessary physical force, and the alarming approach by the police raise significant concerns about the treatment of patrons, questioning the safety and management practices of the establishment.
This experience, a jarring deviation from the expected standards of respectful treatment and clear communication, compels me to caution others. Houston's "Austin's Backyard," despite its promise of a premium nightlife experience, sadly fails to deliver on the most basic expectations of dignity and safety for its guests. My narrative, while difficult to share, is essential for those planning to navigate Houston's nightlife, highlighting the urgent need for venues like "Austin's Backyard" to reevaluate and improve their conduct and safety standards.
By sharing my story, I hope not only to steer others away from potential negative experiences but also to initiate a broader conversation on the necessity for operational reforms within Houston's nightlife establishments. Ensuring a secure, enjoyable, and respectful environment is paramount, and "Austin's Backyard" must address these glaring shortcomings for the wellbeing of its future patrons.
It's been 4 days, but there's still a guard's fingerprint mark on my arm that won't...

Atmosphere was great and had a great time....until I was reviewing my bank account that following Monday. I noticed I had been charged $62.50 for 1 bucket of beer. I was curious and looked into the reviews and saw quite a few reviews mentioning being over charged and extra tips/fees when using a credit card. I called and I was in communication with someone regarding the charge and the questions I had. I was told that the bucket was $48 and if ordered outside with a server they automatically charge a 20% fee (gratuity) which I was not aware of. Another person in our group had purchased 1st bucket which was about $20 and a 2nd bucket later throughout the time we were there. He had one charge for $28.66 & the other was for $58.82. The person over text said he would send me copy of receipts, but never did so we went in person. The guy pulled up the receipts and showed me I was charged $8 a beer for 6 beers, which mathematically added up, however our friend's receipts both had the word "beer bucket" and were purchased inside at the bar. He also was charged the automatic gratuity even after cash was given for tip. When I question why all 3 buckets were charged different prices, I was told it could have been different specials, but couldn't tell me what time their happy hour was that day or that what the set prices for buckets are. He said it was hard to tell because all 3 buckets were ordered from different people. Mind you, they were all purchased within a 2 hr. span. So I asked if they can each charged what they want since there is not a "set price". Didn't really give an answer. PLEASE look at your receipts when using a card and don't be taken advantage of. Too many other bars/places on the street like DRIFT (next-door) that has amazing customer service, drink specials, and awesome food truck on site!! The only reason we didn't see game there was because it was already full...
Read moreI went with a group of friends to the white linen party yesterday. We ate from the food truck that was absolutely delicious best hotdog I’ve had in a long time! Way to go, True Dog!
As far as the establishment itself. Austin‘s backyard had a ridiculous policy. As I sent my husband out to get food from the food truck, they would not let him return back in. They were making him go back in the long line to get back in.
That was just one of the major issues we had. Another major issue we had was when we went to valet parking attendant. The guy told us $50! I told him he was ridiculous. He said it was because we had a truck. I told him it was still ridiculous so then he says $40. He was just making a price and there was no set pricing. We also seen him arguing with several different people about rates. I asked other couple and he was charging different prices for different people.
They had no outside restrooms for such a huge event. The women’s line was in sane! So they expected you to wait an hour to get in the place. Then if you decide to get food, then stay another hour in line to get back in! Oh and then if you had to go to the bathroom, it was an hour wait. It might look like a really big place but it’s not as very small inside once you pack it with so many people. The ladies restroom line was so long that it was crossing into the bar line.
I was not a fan of this place at all. I won’t be returning. Oh, and we try to go back up the ramp to get back inside and the guy told us we couldn’t get in even though we just went to get our food. But then he decided for $20 he would let us back in. I don’t know how they run this place, but obviously they don’t know what’s going on with the people working for them. Everybody is making side money in this place! Absolutely...
