The aye candy is a great set up for a speakeasy. This is my first one in Houston.I’ve been to others before. I loved the hostess she was very inviting and sweet. The ambience is to die for when I say from the lighting, decor , and presentation it gives high class with a ounce of mellowness. The drinks were made well, I ordered the Aye Candy Gin and tonic my girlfriends ordered other drinks as well. The presentation on all our drinks were superb. It looks just like the photos on their website and instagram. We ordered one medium charcuterie board everything fresh well made and delicious. Now let’s get to service we made reservations for 7:30pm the live Latin band was for 8pm. They were behind by an hr. So it starts after 9pm around 9:30 ish. We talking enjoying the scenery and just when we started relaxing the bar tender/ manager Lanre walks up and says I’m sorry but it’s a 2hr maximum to reserve this section. I have other reservations that need this area. Ok so now I’m taken a back because now there is not only several tables that were seated before we even arrived but we had to get up. I nicely asked so out of all the tables we have to go now, he said no you don’t have to leave but you do have to make way to the bar or just a standing area. I’m not finish my drink and so is my friend, my other girlfriend was just about to order another drink. So I said where on the website or the social does it say a 2hr max per table. He didn’t answer me. I also asked why are we being asked to leave first when their several tables around us that have been pass 2hrs. I proceeded to say I have a drink and I won’t be standing with heels on drinking it. No seats at the bar no standing room either. After a few conversations we settled for a small section with a little table for the misrepresentation, my girlfriend was given a complimentary drink which she was gonna buy anyway. I know this establishment has to make money. I just feel that people should be treated fairly. I really didn’t like out of all the other sections we were chosen. I didn’t make it about race but I definitely made it about money. It’s my first time and it’s like ok you see it you had a drink now bye. Me and my girlfriends love fine dining and money wasn’t an issue at all. I even said you could have charged us for more time in the section. That was never even an option out his mouth either. We were accommodated after a long conversation of why the guest are not told this, are why not put it in the open table app upon booking. The experience was ruined for me. I didn’t enjoy the rest of my drink or the live band because of how I felt so uneasy. I will not be returning. I hope this is addressed and handled properly. Your guest should know these options upon booking so they can book accordingly. The overall experience is a...
Read moreI'm not an influencer that intentionally raves about every bar or restaurant I walk into in an effort to promote it. I'm a consumer that understands quality food, service and beverages. I say this because I want this establishment to succeed. This area needs quality places like this to continue growth in this area. I understand Aye Candy has been open for only a few days and it's normal to experience teething problems and there will be wrinkles to iron out. So I want to extend grace to them in this review. The positives definitely exist. They have designed a creative way to enter a speak easy via a candy shop facade. Bravo. The over all interior was well thought out and a variety of seating options are available to enjoy. The music wasn't so loud that it drowned out our conversation and good vibes were playing. All of the staff/servers were friendly and attentive. Our real disappointment was the adult beverages. They were not at all representative of the creative and innovative libations we were teased with over past month's on their Instagram. This was the lure for us and it definitely fell short. Our cocktails tasted ok. Nothing special or memorable. Nothing that we would reorder. The presentation and garnish felt sloppy and was another unfortunate disappointment. Our charcuterie board was presented without small plates or napkins. We nabbed napkins from a nearby table. Attentions to details that were overlooked. The other negative for us, as women, is the location and what immediately surrounds this establishment. Houston is fortunate to have many diverse and unique cocktail bars/lounges. We are spoiled by selection and exceptional libations. We plan to give this speakeasy a few months to settle in and get their rythem and we will return in the hopes that the cocktails will be on a different level from this first experience. Again, we want...
Read moreThis is a lovely speakeasy that is disguised as a candy shop from the outside. In terms of parking, valet is the only option unless you park in the residential area across the street. Don’t park in the stores next to Aye Candy because you will get towed. Valet is $10 from Friday-Sunday but free during the weekday.
The iside is dimly lit and beautifully decorated. The bathrooms are also a vibe! My friend and I ordered the following: Royale This was actually recommended by the bartender when I asked him which drink is the sweetest. Royale was a solid choice and I wish I tried the flower because it’s edible- next time :)!
Aye Candy Gin & Tonic My friend ordered this and it was such a gorgeous drink! I loved how I was able to taste the rosemary and all the other elements that were incorporated. This was probably my favorite drink of the night.
Espresso Flor Martini The Hello Kitty decoration hello?! So adorable!! And tasted lovely
Cocosol The presentation with the hibiscus salt rim and flower was beautiful. We couldn’t quite taste the lavender syrup since the tequila flavor was quite strong but still a good drink!
Although the drinks were expensive, they are beautifully crafted and you can taste the quality. Not to mention, the servers here are very attentive and keen to detail. This is a good place to take/impress someone after you state “I...
