Boondocks is really more of a bar and hangout place than a dance club and music venue as majority of the customers are there for drinks and hanging out on the patio for some great social time. I mean, whenever Boondocks throw a 90s dance party or any other dance music is playing upstairs, people do go and dance but most of the time people are there to chill, drink, and socialize. I do like the Sunday karaoke where you get to perform on the stage and people would go crazy on great performances.
The drinks are good price as it's still close to the dive-y price along with the dive-y service. But the best part is definitely the crowd. On a recent trip here, I was just sitting out on the patio by myself and a guy sat next to me to start a conversation and it turns out we were from the same hood' (Alief!) and we talked about some of the things only we would have experienced. From there I was able to meet his sibling and had a shot with them. Another time is when I was here for the Sunday karaoke, I did one of 90s rap song so well that one of the girl in the crowd started to twerk on me and 'making it rain' dollar bills on me. Yes, I can't believe I actually got paid for doing bad karaoke.
I haven't had a bad time here at all whenever my friends and I want to go to Boondocks. The only sticky thing is the parking. Then again, this goes for all the bars in the same area but for new comers, it may be a bit difficult to find free parking without needing to park in the neighborhood behind the bar area or get ticketed for parking on the...
Read moreI really liked this place, I really did. Keyword: did. I have brought several friends here who also liked itâŚbut, for no real reason at all other than misogyny and a disgusting lack of self-awareness on the part of their employees, tonight was my final experience at Boondockâs.
Why? Oh, because some random dude decided to tell me that I was âbannedâ for leaving at 2:02am rather than 2:00am, and for not having a tab open - because it had been closed and paid for a few minutes earlier.
Such a shame that they didnât bother to let the strange men sitting near me know that they were also banned. One eagerly followed me to my car and kindly begged me to âgive him head.â Isnât that sweet?
Prepare yourself for the same disrespect if you decide to degrade yourself to the level of this scumbag bar. But first I hope you will ask yourself if you really deserve such poor...
Read moreI don't like to throw the r word around without a sound basis for the claim, but one of the bartenders was definitely discriminating against my date and I, who happened to be white. We sat at the bar for 30 minutes while the bartender looked over us constantly to attend to other customers who had just walked up. I waited patiently for the bartender to finally take my order, finally after seeing him serve 6 other people who came after us, I asked him if he could take our order. He asked me if I wanted water. I told him no I wanted a drink. Then he told me to hold on as he went to make a drink for someone else. My date was more upset than I was, I'm use to racism... We left after he walked off. Will never go back again. It's a shame I use to love to go there back in the day when I first...
