I came here because it was recommended by the a pamphlet produced by the International District and a health inspector that I know personally. I was hesitant, as both their track record was pretty bad. Extremely wary of this, I had low expectations of this place.
No surprise, food was edible, but not worth too much to write any praise about. I ordered. a roasted duck, pretty goodand moist, but had primarily a soy roasted flavour. Little much in the way of spices.
Char siu had the same flavour profile, maybe a little sweeter, tasted like a duck. No charring was present, and they put a lot of food colouring. See enclosed pictures.meat Meat was of a lean cut and on the verge of being dry.
I also ordered some of the beef tripe. This was the most disappointing. It was boiled tripe tossed in chili oil. That is it. No flavour permeated the tripe what so ever. The price was about 6.50 a pound.
Drippings served were lightly seasoned and sweetened and primarily a soy flavour: no surprise.
Paid a total of 50.61 for the meats.
I would give to them that the food was fresh, but end result was tasteless save for the duck. There are places that do these...
Read moreI was in search of a new Chinese barbecue place after I had moved to Houston. I had Yelp this place and saw some mixed reviews. It definitely deserves a higher rating based on the barbecue. The to-go portion is lacking food so maybe that's where the lower stars cane from? Anyway, glad I came here!
I bought the barbecue pork and roasted pork. They were both very very delicious! Before driving off, the fatty me open the box to try and both while it was fresh. It did not disappoint.
The meat on the barbecue pork is very moist and was extremely flavorful. I was worried it might have lacked flavor because most places would either be no flavor or salty. The roasted pork meat was juicy and tender and the skin was nice and crispy. Most places make it on the saltier side but this was just perfect. It was salty naturally from the meat.
I'm super excited I took a chance on a random place. Also, their pricing is on the cheaper side. #winning! I found my new go-to for...
Read moreI've followed these folks around Chinatown since I was probably in high school when they were located further east. The roasts are hit or miss by day. We've had excellent roast pigs with crunchy skin, moist meat and just the right amount of fat and then there are times where I was swear the skin is a dried piece of leather and the meat is dry.
The roast duck has been the same as well -- hit or miss. Sometimes the skin is nice and crispy and the fat just drips and oozes out nicely. Other times I swear the duck was anorexic and was dying of starvation before it was cooked -- no fat, no meat.
I just wish they'd be more consistent in both the roast and the raw...
