I visited DoDo’s Chicken on Wednesday 6/11 around 4:45 PM, excited to get the chicken and sides that I usually love. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing for several reasons.
First, I noticed that the staff handling food behind the counter were not wearing gloves. Hygiene is important, especially when preparing and serving food, and it was concerning that no one appeared to be following proper food safety practices.
At that time, the rotisserie was already being cleaned, which told me they had stopped preparing fresh chicken for the day. Instead, they were serving pre-cooked chicken kept in a warmer. As expected, this made the chicken dry and hard on the outside. I ordered the 1/2 dark meat chicken with yellow rice and Tequeños. However, I was given two small leg quarters and an extra piece of white meat—which I didn’t ask for—all of which were extremely dry. The portion size has noticeably decreased as well.
I was also very concerned to see them using spray cleaner near the food, which poses a risk of chemical contamination. On top of that, the Tequeños were extremely dark and tasted like they had been refried, nearly burnt.
Adding to the poor experience, one of the girls behind the counter was playing around and massaging her coworkers while customers were being served. That level of unprofessional behavior is not something anyone wants to see while waiting for their food.
I’ve always liked this place for its fresh rotisserie chicken, but it feels like DoDo’s has started cutting corners on both food quality and cleanliness. Paying $19.52 for this meal just didn’t feel worth it.
Please update your hours. I went last night at 9:05 and yall were closed. I was really looking foward to my Tequenos and chicken. I had to drive to Pollo Riko on Fondren. I had the same situation. They were closed early and it says 10pm. I had to settle for Pollo Campero which I really...
Read moreThe food is good. The service deserves a minus. The last time we were there, the lady at the register asked us at the end of the order if we wanted mixed....? which we have never been asked that before, I heard her but my husband didn't. I was not sure what she meant by it. Anyway, we placed the order, media pechuga con arroz y frijoles to go. We always request the food to go, we go next door, which is the seating section of the place and we pulled the food out and at that time we understood what mixed meant... they gave us the beans and rice in the same container, which we have never had it that way before, so my husband goes to ask what happened, and the lady was a sour toot, no manners to attend to a customer, she said, I asked if mixed and you said yes, and which was correct but no explanation so we could understand at the point of making the order what she was saying, so they continue to argue that's how we ordered instead of just saying we understand the misunderstanding and here are your beans and rice, in a separate containers, instead they were ok to return the money, by law they had to throw away the food which was 3 orders and also lost a customer that stops by almost every other day. Incredible, the lack of customer service, but they hire people that are lazy and dont understand the impact that they made when they are attending to a customer, this is not a 5 star by any means but that does not matter when customer service is not provided to a paying customer. The place is very humble and needs a lift in looks but mustly in customer service. We will not drive the...
Read moreDodos Chicken is a humble Colombian wood-grilled chicken rotisserie place where the star of the show is the Chicken. It is a small counter service place where you place your order and then take it and eat outside or in a bigger dining room adjoining the place. This area has 4 different Colombian restaurants stone's throw away from eat other. But this restaurant stands out as it just serves a humble chicken with some sides that do not take away the spotlight from the chicken. There is always chicken spinning on the rotisserie and that just tells you how busy they do get. The rush is not too bad as most people tend to get their food to go. The chicken is served as quarter, half, or whole chicken. You can choose white or dark. We tend to get the quarter chicken with a side. Our favorite side there is the sweet plantains (Maduros). A side note if you ever get a chance to try sweet plantains with cheese go for it you will never regret it. They even have savory plantains (Tostones) with rice and beans. I have tried their empanadas in the past as I love empanadas and the ones served here are decent but nothing to go rushing back to get it again. I love their salsas that come with the chicken. I tend to drain the liquid and use the rest on my chicken. It is much spicier than traditional Colombian fare, it seems...
