Okay, here's a review draft based on your experience at Droubi's, aiming for a balanced but honest tone:
Droubi's Bakery & Deli: Delicious Food, Uncomfortable Atmosphere
I had mixed feelings about my visit to Droubi's. On the positive side, I was immediately greeted upon entering, which was a nice touch. I also appreciated being able to browse their selection of spices and lentils while waiting for my order, and I ended up purchasing a few items to take home.
The food itself was the highlight. Both the gyro and chicken shawarma sandwiches were incredibly flavorful – the taste was truly on point. However, the experience was unfortunately overshadowed by other factors.
The restaurant's cleanliness and organization left much to be desired. More concerning was the tense atmosphere. The owner seemed to be engaged in a verbal dispute with his wife, which was quite evident and made me feel uneasy. Additionally, his comment about another employee – "she has to do it or she can go home" – was unprofessional and added to the discomfort.
When I requested garlic sauce, I was told the sandwiches already contained it, which was frustrating as I was willing to pay extra for more. While I understand streamlining orders, the dismissive response wasn't ideal.
Overall, while the food was undeniably delicious, the lack of cleanliness and the uncomfortable atmosphere created by the owner's behavior made for a negative experience. Sadly, I won't...
Read moreMy wife and son and I paid our "first" visit to Droubi's last remaining location. The people we met were super helpful and friendly. This place has been in business for over 40 years and after tasting the best spicy chicken shwarma wrap i've ever had, and some amazing baked goods...I can see why they've been around so long. My wife got the meatball plate with 2 sides, we all tried them...really tasty and tender. The only thing we tried that wasn't quite 5 stars was the tabouleh. Definitely get the coconut cookies and the cookie with dates in the middle...you'll thank me later. Now I need to go back and try everything else. This is a bakery, deli and grocery store. They're in the process of enlarging the space allocated for the deli. The lady working at the bakery counter said they used to have 4 locations. We will be back for...
Read moreWhen I was a kid there was one place my mom would take me to get Mediterranean food - Droubis. I was looking for another restaurant when I saw this and quickly pulled in to the parking lot. Droubis used to have 5 locations around Houston, and many of the popular local Mediterranean restaurants were started by ex-employees. This location has seen better days, they're in the middle of an extended remodel. That said, the food was beyond delicious. When I ordered Falafel A.J. (Droubi) cooked some fresh. This was the best Falafel I've ever had, and the hummus, taboull, bread and even garlic sauce was amazingly fresh. Don't be put off by the run-down appearance, this is fantastic food served by incredibly sweet people. It's also a bakery and carry other imported items. This is a historic icon I'm glad I...
