Let's start with this place is a hidden jewel. This restaurant is located inside the Hilton Hotel at the University of Houston. It's a nice quiet and cozy atmosphere. If you are just going as a guest for the restaurant, the hotel will validate your parking for up to 2 hours, which is nice. The menu is new as of this weekend. We tried several food items on the menu. The flavors are good if not a little different than what you would normally expect. Overall, i would say what we tried was pretty good, and some of it will bear a repeat performance. Lol. The staff was nice and helpful with the new menu. They did a good job explaining the food items they had seen come out or even tried already. The calamari is on point, and the artichoke dip is pretty tasty, too. The meat lovers flatbread was a little different than what I expected, but it was still good. The cajun seafood pasta was a hit. The braised short rib is not at all what we were thinking. It's more like pot roast if I'm being honest. It's very good, especially if you are looking for comfort food. I don't drink, but my husband does, and he liked both mixed drinks he got. Overall, we will be back again.

BREAKFAST The good: Service was decent. Our waiter forgot a few things, but was friendly. Atmosphere was calm & quiet. I don’t think this restaurant ever gets busy. Prices are pretty low, but would pay more for a better breakfast. We ordered dinner the night before and most of the food was decent. The bad: the coffee was not hot and pretty weak. I ordered an espresso to help. My steak and eggs were mediocre, and I’m not sure why they cut it up for me. I did not order steak frites. My wife omelet was ok but needed more seasoning. My daughter breakfast sandwich was also mediocre. Overall: even thou the food was not the greatest, the restaurant is convenient for guest, it’s never crowded, and it’s inexpensive. Our bill was $70 for three people.

I sampled three menu items, and of the selection, the halal chicken curry was the most disappointing. The rice arrived cold, and the chicken was noticeably overcooked, though the naan and tomato-based curry offered a redeeming depth of flavor. The highlights of the meal were the beverages and sides. The house lemonade was bright and refreshing, while the sandwich proved exceptional. The fries, though enjoyable, would benefit from a slightly longer fry for a crisper finish. The pasta showed promise, but the execution fell short. The onions, sliced thin and served nearly raw, lacked the rich caramelization that would have elevated the dish. With more attention to detail, this could have been a standout offering.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Eric's Restaurant at the Hilton, and while my experience had its moments of promise, it ultimately fell short of the high standards I expected from a full-service Hilton venue. Upon entering, the ambiance was pleasant and welcoming, setting a nice tone for the evening. However, as the meal progressed, it became clear that the food itself was mediocre at best. I was particularly looking forward to the French onion soup, a dish I believe should be a hallmark of any reputable restaurant. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a misunderstanding in its preparation. I had to send it back as it was not OK, which diminished the overall experience. Other dishes on the menu similarly failed to impress. While they were presented nicely, the flavors did not stand out, leaving a sense of disappointment. For a restaurant associated with such a reputable hotel chain, I expected more inventive and thoughtfully executed dishes. Moreover, the service was not as attentive as one might hope. Our server seemed overwhelmed and had difficulty addressing our questions about the menu, which added to the overall sense of disorganization during our meal. In conclusion, while Eric's Restaurant has a lovely setting and some potential, the food and service do not reflect the level of quality expected from a Hilton establishment. It’s unfortunate, as I believe with some adjustments, it could elevate its dining experience significantly. For now, I would recommend exploring other options...

This location is a hidden treasure in plain sight. As a student at the university, this restaurant deserves a five-star rating for various reasons:

Exclusivity. Students have no idea about this restaurant that some walk by every day. As this restaurant is part of the Hilton on campus, most don't consider it as a place to dine. If seated near the window during the busiest part of a school day the feeling of exclusivity stems from the quiet and calm of the restaurant, while looking out at high pedestrian traffic.

Wifi. As one might expect, the university-wide free wireless connection reaches the restaurant.

Model Customer Service. The service that one would expect from any establishment that provides a service is here. The managers casually gauge the customers' needs and satisfaction along with the waiters/waitresses. When not attending to a customer, they very quietly converse with each other with light conversation--they appear to get along well.

Great Study Location. As a combination of all previous points, this restaurant is my favorite place to study. I've stayed in the restaurant for over six hours at a time and, while I make sure I at least eat one meal there, the staff will still check-up on me in case I need anything.

The Wall Street Journal. There are copies of the Journal for you to read while you're there.

Food Rating. If this rating was based on the food alone, I would rate it somewhere between a three-star and...

This used to be our regular Sunday lunch spot. The food used to be above average although a bit overpriced for the small portions. The quiet atmosphere made it a great place to meet for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately something has changed. We went there two weeks ago service was good not great but the food was undercooked especially the salmon. This was in spite of ordering the fish well done. That trip was salvaged by the staff who made sure the fish was recooked and was sincerely apologetic and recognized the problem. The original serving was basically raw. Since we were treated fairly we returned for lunch today. Oh my! The service was non existent if I hadn’t of went to the receptionist after a half an hour of waiting we would not have gotten served. We made sure the person who waited on us knew that the fish needed to be well done. To cut this short we were served raw salmon. The Eric’s burger ordered medium was served rare. The salmon was sent back and when it was returned to the table it was still raw not even opeque. We are not folks so we just asked for to go boxes and paid the bill. The wait staff was not rude but an apology would have appreciated. We are regular travelers and Hilton honors members so we will make sure Hilton does not get our travel dollars. We had a few laughs at the sign exiting th restaurant that says world peace through hospitality. No world...
