What a wonderful surprise for your taste buds at Gumbo Mama! Do not let the location inside a gas station derail you from going! Tina, the owner, is a breath of fresh air. Her food is filled with love and her gumbo and signature hamburger could rival the best in Houston. I don’t really even like burgers because I am so very picky on my flavors. I tried the burger my son ordered and finished the rest of his because he could not finish it…it is HUGE and the most delicious burger I have had in all of Houston…actually anywhere and I am well travelled! I had the seafood gumbo and you feel like your in New Orleans. Fresh, delicious, full of flavor and seafood including crab! My son is at U of H and will be returning and sharing with his friends. She also offers a free piece of homemade cake to new customers and it is only $2.00 for a slice, now that is unheard of anywhere and her cakes are moist and delicious! I googled the best gumbo in Houston and Gumbo Mama was a favorite. I decided to give them a try, so happy I did. Mrs.Tina the owner greeted me with a warm welcoming smile before she took my order. She was very kind and wholesome, definitely makes you feel like you’re with family. I ordered the seafood gumbo, fried shrimp and catfish basket. Wait time wasn’t long and she even gifted me a slice of vanilla pound cake as a first time customer. The food was incredible. The gumbo was the best I’ve had. It was seasoned perfectly and had generous portions of seafood inside. The shrimps were large and crispy, fries and catfish were seasoned and flavorful. Even the toast included was buttered and tasty. I read on someone’s review that she makes her tarter sauce, Omg it was delicious. It was so good I dipped my fries in it 😂. I just got an opportunity to give Gumbo Mama a try on today. All I can say is it was worth the wait. I ran across this business on Google last month and wanted to visit it after seeing all the great reviews. I called and spoke with the owner Ms. Tina the other day and she was so sweet I felt comfortable with her before tasting her food. They have great food and believe in treating all customers with respect. I witnessed this for myself. After having a couple of poor customer service experiences with two other businesses in the last week it is refreshing to see someone who is doing it right.
