Came here on 4th of July evening with the family for dinner. We wanted something other than the usual Saigon Pogolac, since we always go there for holiday or birthday dinners. I wanted to give this place 4 stars but a lot of things were just not as good as we would had expected. I start with the service. The server was Vietnamese (most were Chinese), so communication was great and we got our order in perfectly. She was nice and was informative about the dishes we picked out, and even warned us on one of the dishes I ordered, which was $57 for Dungeness crab fried rice. I actually appreciated her letting us know, just Incase we got surprised by the bill, though we ordered it anyway.
The guy who kept bringing our food out just placed random dishes on our table. We were kinda confused as we didn't order some of it. I had to tell him we didn't order this fried rice dish. Then he placed one plate of 8 egg rolls, then another plate of 4. Another waiter asked why we ordered 2 egg roll counts like that... we said we didn't. So the man had to take it away and gave it to the correct table behind us.
Family of 7 shared many dishes which included: -Egg rolls that came in an orange sweet & sour sauce (not all that) -Chicken lettuce wrap with hoisin sauce (don't even bother) -Dungeness crab fried rice (not worth $57) crab meat was dry and the rice was dry as well. Had okay flavor. -Honey spare ribs (was okay) -General Tso's chicken (not good) -Bo luc lac (kinda chewy) -Razor clams (pretty good) -Tofu and veggie stir fried pot (was eh)
Our drinks were constantly running low, and my husband had to get a waiter to refill our drinks... not very attentive. Also, this annoying fly kept flying around and landing on top of our food. It was rather annoying and pretty disgusting if you ask me. Should had just stuck with the place we normally always...

After 15 years in the area, watching Ai Hoa Marketplace blossom with new restaurants, we finally took a chance on Hai Cang. And oh boy, did we hit the jackpot!
From the piping hot fish and crab soup that warmed our souls to the crispy chow mein that danced on our tongues, every dish was a symphony of flavors. The chicken lettuce wraps were a refreshing burst of green, the salt and pepper tofu and pork ribs a savory duet, and the evergreen snowpack leaves a vibrant reminder of spring. And who could forget the Mongolian beef, a classic done right, tender and flavorful.
But beyond the culinary delights, it was the atmosphere that truly made the lunch special. Laughter filled the air as we shared stories and birthday wishes, the clinking of plates and silverware a backdrop to our camaraderie. The friendly service added a touch of warmth, making us feel like we were dining amongst friends.
Leaving Hai Cang, we felt not just full of delicious food, but also full of joy and appreciation. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best things in life are found right under our noses, waiting to be discovered. So, if you're ever in Bellaire, don't hesitate to give Hai Cang a try. You might just find yourself writing your own love letter to...
Read moreInitially, we visited this restaurant was due to the high ratings. We ate here a few times and the food was alright, but the quality has gone down significantly with this time around. I don’t normally write negative reviews, but my dinning experience this time was awful with the food being served. The Peking duck we were served with tasted old and dry. It was very small in quantity for what was considered a “whole” duck. No quality and not much in quantity either. We also ordered a family style dinner. The Chef’s Special Tofu-we were served with stale tofu-tasted sour with pudding like texture even though it was fried. They did replace another tofu dish when we complained and gave us a reason for the stale tofu was due to improper temperature storage. So be careful eating here. Pekin pork ribs tasted like they were fried once too many due to surplus...tasted old, super hard and dry, and they were loaded with sugary sauce to cover up the not so fresh ribs. Pepper steak was very salty-“stokingly” salty...could be from heavy handed on the seasoning. Mushroom with vegetables-the mushroom tasted moldy...not sure if it was the sauce that made it taste weird or the dried mushroom was super old. My children were experiencing stomachache afterward. Will not be returning or recommending to anyone. Don’t waste your money at...
