I’m totally disappointed. After waiting so long for this restaurant to open, I expected it to be worth the wait, but it was a complete letdown. If you’ve been to the original location in OC, California, you know it’s one of the best. They took the same name, but everything about this place is the total opposite—a complete disaster. The food portions are tiny compared to the price, cold, and lacking in flavor. Nothing about it is appealing. They claimed to be a Vietnamese restaurant, but it’s more of a mishmash of different Asian cuisines—not authentically Vietnamese at all.
Be aware of hidden charges. They told us they don’t serve alcohol but that it was fine to bring our own. Halfway through our meal, they came to our table and informed us there was a $5 charge for of beer we brought in. No one mentioned this fee beforehand. When I spoke to the server about it, she apologized, saying the other server didn’t know. The restaurant has been open for a few weeks now; you should train your staff properly before they start serving customers. Why put them on the floor if they’re not familiar with the protocols? No where in the menu or restaurant said about this fee. This lack of communication led to unexpected charges, and the overall service was unfriendly, especially from one server who acted like she knew it all but clearly didn’t.
The food was subpar, the portions were small, and the customer service was terrible. I understand $5 isn’t a big deal, but it would’ve been nice if they explained it in a friendly way beforehand. I won’t be returning, and I suggest others think twice before going. Don’t use the name if you can’t live up to the quality of the original. It’s...
Read moreI had the chance to dine at [XìGÒN OC & MORE ], and it was a culinary adventure unlike any other! Specializing in Vietnamese snail dishes, this restaurant brings a vibrant, authentic twist to every plate.
The variety of snail dishes was impressive, and each one was bursting with flavor. My favorite was the ốc xào me (stir-fried snails with tamarind sauce)—the tangy, sweet, and slightly spicy sauce perfectly coated the snails, making them absolutely irresistible. The ốc hấp sả (steamed snails with lemongrass) was another standout, with its fresh, aromatic flavors that were enhanced by the zesty lime and chili dipping sauce.
The restaurant also offered other unique dishes like grilled clams with scallion oil and peanuts, and crispy snail spring rolls, both of which were equally delicious. Each dish was beautifully presented, showcasing the vibrant colors and textures that Vietnamese cuisine is known for.
The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with a bustling, street-food vibe that made the experience even more authentic. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu and even showing us the proper way to enjoy the snails.
Prices were very affordable, and the portions were generous, making it a fantastic spot to enjoy with friends or family. Whether you’re a snail enthusiast or trying them for the first time, [Restaurant Name] is the perfect place to dive into this flavorful side of Vietnamese cuisine.
I can’t wait to come back and explore more of their menu. Highly recommend this hidden gem for anyone looking for a true...
Read moreThis establishment is a glaring example of how not to run a restaurant. The service was abysmal, and the food somehow managed to be even worse. Out of the six dishes we ordered, three were merely passable (the fried rice and steamed clams), but the other dishes were shockingly bad.
Swirly Snails with Coconut Milk: This dish was a disaster. Half of the snails were just empty shells. It felt like a blatant attempt to deceive diners, as the creamy sauce masked the fact that there was no meat in many of the shells. It’s hard to escape the suspicion that they reused empty shells to cut corners. Avoid this dish at all costs.
Grilled Pork Skewers with Sticky Rice: This was an appalling dish. The pork was raw in the middle, a serious food safety issue that shouldn’t be overlooked. When I pointed this out to the server, they reluctantly took it back to be regrilled. It’s alarming that the chef doesn’t seem to understand that pork must be fully cooked—this isn’t beef.
Incomplete Orders: Adding insult to injury, only four out of the six dishes we ordered arrived. The server was indifferent to our missing food until we finally had to ask about it near the end of our meal. We were then told that another server had mistakenly given our dishes to another table, forcing us to wait for them to be recooked. This kind of carelessness is unacceptable.
Unjustified Service Charge: Despite the horrendous service and subpar food, the restaurant automatically added an 18% gratuity. While I have no issue tipping well for good service, this kind of incompetence certainly doesn’t deserve it.
Overuse of Spices and MSG: The food was overwhelmingly spiced and loaded with MSG, which left an unpleasant aftertaste. It’s as if the chefs are overly reliant on MSG, a common but unfortunate crutch in some kitchens.
In summary, this restaurant needs a serious overhaul. I would strongly advise against dining here unless they make significant improvements.
