Heights Drive Inn — Restaurant in Houston

Used to love this place, but after what we experienced the other night—we’re done.

If you’ve ever been to Heights Drive Inn, you know Kitty. She was the glue, sanity and HEART of that bar since day one. My wife and I had been in a few times and hadn’t seen her for a while and we’ve missed her. This last visit we asked the bartender on shift if she’d be in that day, and not only did we learn she no longer worked there, but the bartender launched into some shockingly rude, unprofessional and weirdly bitter rant about her. Completely unwarranted. This was the most attention we got from her the entire time. After the strange outburst, she could barely be bothered to look up from her phone, let alone make a decent drink. Don’t remember her name, she’s maybe 5ft tall with short dark hair.

They were out of ingredients for what we originally ordered (French 75), so we switched to vodka soda with extra lime. She said they were out of limes (because who needs limes at a bar, right?). Okay, just vodka soda. My wife’s glassware was coated with lipstick. Filthy. I don’t know how she didn’t see it when she was making it, we were watching her with our mouths agape. We were over it at that point so we grabbed a couple Topo Chicos and while closing our tab, were treated to the grand finale: a parade of roaches that came FLOODING from under the register/printer. The pictures will haunt you.

No toilet paper, paper towels or SOAP in all 3 bathrooms. Filthy glassware. Filthy bar. Unprofessional service. The bar seems to be in transition, but we’ve been coming here over 2 years and this is not the same place we grew to know and love.

I say enough good things about Heights Drive Inn! The manager, Thomas, and the entire team, including bartenders Kitty, Maritza, Jose, Luis, Sarah, and Melissa, and the barback Edgar, create an incredible atmosphere. The music and vibes are always on point, and the outdoor area adds to the charm. I've had an amazing time every visit, especially when they show Astros games during playoffs. The owner who I know, did a great job with the building but the lack of staff is extremely bad. The young men working are good at their job but the girls working there truly need to find a new industry. Not only do you have to beg them to get off the phone to serve you, one has to carry ones beverages to the table and then clear the table time after time. Now let's talk about the over charging and the added drinks to the bill and when one questions it, it becomes an issue to the ones scamming the customers.
