Angela's Oven is the epitome of a hidden gem in the Heights, tucked away on a quiet corner lot in the Sunset Heights neighborhood. The location might seem unsuspecting at first—situated in a red barnyard with a cozy, rustic vibe—but once you step inside, you'll realize why this spot has become a favorite among locals. It's the kind of place where most customers walk from their nearby homes, adding to the neighborhood feel that makes this bakery so special. The bakery itself has a modest interior, with just a few seats at a shared table and some side stools. It's not a place that tries to dazzle with flashy decor; instead, it lets the quality of its pastries do all the talking. Outside, there's a spacious patio with plenty of picnic tables, perfect for enjoying a refreshing ice tea on a beautiful Houston day. The warm, inviting atmosphere makes it easy to see why it's a local favorite. Angela's Oven was started by Jerry Shawn, a former Marine who found his true calling in baking. After stumbling upon an Italian cookbook at a garage sale, he discovered a passion for the art of bread-making that led him to culinary school and eventually to opening his own bakery with his wife, Angela. Jerry's commitment to quality and community shines through in every loaf of bread, every croissant, and every pastry that comes out of his oven. Before you make the journey, know there is plenty of free street parking available, but it tends to get full just in front of the bakery. Also, they are open from 7 am to 1 pm on Wednesday-Friday and from 8 am to 1 pm on Saturday and Sunday. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday. [COLD DRINKS] +Peach Palmer (ice peach tea with lemonade) for $3 - The ice peach tea here is unsweetened, and adding a bit of lemonade gives it slightly a sweeter taste (ask for a splash of lemonade). It's very refreshing. I would order this over the ice peach tea alone. It's great on a sunny day. - 4.5/5 [PASTRIES] +Chocolate Croissant for $5 - The pastries at Angela's Oven are really good! I need to try more of them. The chocolate croissant definitely hits the spot. - 4.5/5 [BREAKFAST] +Aurora Breakfast Plate (2 eggs, biscuit, a side, and fruit) for $9.50 - I love this simple breakfast plate. The eggs taste incredibly fresh. For my side, I usually get the bacon, and it's so soft and juicy. Usually, I don't even like biscuits, but they are really good here! I feel Angela's Oven's simple breakfast plate is considerably better than most fancy brunch places around town. - 5/5 Angela's Oven stands out not just for the exceptional quality of its food, but also for its genuine connection to the community. It's the kind of place where you can sit outside with a fresh croissant and a cup of coffee, enjoying the simplicity of the moment while knowing you're supporting a local business that truly cares. I would highly recommend checking this place out!

Parking is off street & a little scarce. It's great that the farmers market co-op is next door! Parking ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Atmosphere ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cleanliness ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Iced pumpkin Latte ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Main shop area is small so not much seating. Maybe 2-3 small parties. Outdoor seating is plentiful. I got the seasonal iced pumpkin latte, and it was delicious. Aurora Breakfast was ok. Eggs were like I make 'em at home (which is good btw) but the bacon was meh. My husband liked the sausage & he's kind of a sausage connoisseur. I didn't like it. The biscuit was too dense & actually sweet, yuck. It was all served in diner baskets with the main dish doubled. It all could've been in one too avoid too much waste. I'm sure they are avoiding extra dishes but it made the food even less appealing. So I'm a little disappointed, but I will be back to try other things. I did buy coffee, wheat sourdough, and a couple of pastries to try. Also, we just received our to go order and as I was opening to add our leftovers found they don't include fruit in their to go orders for some reason. We bought the ham & cheddar quiche and the French toast to go for our sons to try.

I stumbled upon Angela’s Oven while searching for the best breakfast in The Heights—and I’m so glad I did! From the moment I walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone. Lola greeted me with infectious energy and helped me craft my perfect coffee order—an incredible cold brew with a shot of espresso, oat milk, and vanilla sweetener. It was so good, I ordered another on my way out (a 50/50 cortado that was strong, smooth, and creamy). The food didn’t disappoint either. The French toast was crisp on the outside and rich with flavor, while the sausage patties were perfectly seasoned and cooked—like flavorful mini burger patties without the grease. Despite a line of first-timers working their way through the menu, the vibe remained upbeat and joyful. Angela’s Oven feels like a true neighborhood gem—full of character, charm, and seriously good coffee. Can’t wait to come back!

I am writing this review to offer the owner constructive feedback. My husband and I have been visiting Angela's Oven at least once every other week, for the last 3+ years. We always buy bread/pastries to-go. We live very close by and love to support this local business - they have wonderful products and their staff have always greeted us friendily with smiles, in particular, the female owner, daughter, and other hired staff. The line is always out the door but we never mind the wait. This past weekend however, we were shocked by how we were treated by the male owner. I asked my husband to drive me to Angela's to pick up my usual bread loaves, because I have a back injury and cannot drive myself. After waiting in line, I limped into the building and my husband helped me in. He was finishing up his herbal tea in a ceramic mug from home, and didn't think twice about accidentally carrying it while he waited in line with me. To our surprise, the male owner looked very angrily at us and said "for future reference guys, we do NOT allow outside food/drinks." My husband quickly apologized and explained that he forgot he had his tea from home and that we were just picking up bread. A moment later, the male owner came to my husband and snarkily said "you could just leave it in your car or something!" My husband then explained that we have been coming for years buying tons of their stuff every week, hoping this would calm him down. Instead, the male owner got even more agitated and started yelling "I'M JUST LETTING YOU KNOW! You start doing it, then EVERYONE STARTS DOING IT!" over and over again. It was completely uncalled for, and the way he spoke to us was so demeaning and disrespectful. Zero understanding, zero respect, zero compassion. If he nicely asked us to leave at the very beginning, we would have even preferred that! It was an extremely uncomfortable visit for us, and also the customers around us in line. I'm still in disbelief that someone accidentally bringing in an herbal tea mug from home (not even coffee from another establishment) would spark THAT MUCH rage from the male owner. We had made it clear we were not sitting in to eat and would grab/go as usual. And to top it off, somehow that was worth treating your 3+ year customers that way? I was wearing a back brace for crying out loud. We are nice people who never cause trouble, and even ALWAYS tip 15-20% just for take-out! If I come back, it will be to support the other staff because the lovely female owner and daughter plus other staff should not have to lose customers over his outburst. We would like to bring this to the business's attention as constructive feedback so that hopefully no other customers will ever have to be treated...

👍 The breakfast sandwiches here are great, with options on either croissant or biscuit. 👍 My friends love the croissants, but I’ve never liked them—they’re too crumbly and messy to eat. 👎 We requested our food to-go since we were bringing breakfast for a friend. Unfortunately, it came out without containers, and it took over 20 minutes to get one. ⚠️ Because of the delay, the sandwich was cold, and flies attacked it. 👍 The maple brown sugar latte is delicious. 🤜 There’s always a line, but it moves fast and the people-watching can be entertaining while you wait. 👍 The dining area has toy dinosaurs scattered around for kids to play with. 👎 The venue is mostly outdoors, and I didn’t see a water station when we arrived. I ended up getting tea from a nearby café, only to discover later there was water available. I found it rude that I was told they don't allow outside beverages, despite no sign posted, having to wait outside, and not noticing a water station until after standing in line. 👎 We were reminded of this again by the servers, which made us feel unwelcome... for trying to stay hydrated. 👎 On another visit, the server dropped my to-go buiscuit breakfast sandwhich and the fruitcup (with no lid) got fruit juices all over the sandwhich. It did not improve the flavor. I ended up having "second-breakfast," like a Hobbit,...
