It's rare that I give 1-star ratings, but I think this is well-deserved. When going somewhere for food, I don't just rate a location by its food, I rate it based on the cleanliness of the place, the folks there, etc. just like most other people do. In this particular situation, my coworkers and I came here for the first time for a carry-out. The office area where we ordered the food was not well kept at all, which leaves a terrible first impression. And remember, this place is carry-out or catering only. But yeah, the whole environment was just depressing.
We met a person who we assume is the owner of the BBQ joint. He was un-apologetically blunt and crude. He wasn't particularly rude to us, but we witnessed him treat others with disrespect. A gentleman came in looking for someone to talk to like he's never been there before, to ask for a cup of water for an elder lady outside near the bus stop - apparently, she was throwing up; it was about 90 degrees outside. He said something along the lines of "probably because of the drugs you sold her" with a deadpan tone, making light of a situation he knew very little about. Pretty big jump to a conclusion if you ask me.
I'm wondering if he said that because the young gentleman was Hispanic (who happened to speak perfectly good English, btw). It seemed like they've never met each other before.
Anyway, he goes and yells out to one of his workers (a Hispanic woman) to get a cup of water. When she didn't hear him the first time, he said again, adding - "get a cup of water, your mom is outside throwing up" even though he didn't even step outside to see who it was before saying it...
Look, if you don't agree with my assessment of the owner, that's okay, but there's more - I mentioned the office wasn't clean, but the cooking area was dimly lit and I saw a man put down a cigarette right outside the back door. I'm pretty they have health codes related to that. He's one of the guys that was helping with the cooking. That doesn't inspire confidence, does it?
And even after all of that, we took our food and went back to the office and ate it. We weren't going to throw $40 worth of food away. I personally had the Brisket, the Jalapeno Links, and a (one) rib. Half of the serving of brisket was crunchy and dry and the other half was a different part, which was pretty tender. If you mess up a brisket and it's overcooked to hell where it's dry and tender, you need to re-purpose it and put it in the green beans or something, not serve it as part of the meal. You obviously have no pride in the quality of your food, and that's just bull. The links were probably the best part, and the rib was not great. How
Overall, I don't think I'd recommend getting food from here being catered nor going here to pick up anything. It's just super sketchy and the gentleman we encountered was very unpleasant. If he's willing to act like that in front of customers, I can only imagine what he's like behind closed doors. Know what I mean?
If you decide to get food from here and you don't want to experience any of the BS that goes around here, do the catering. Otherwise, there are plenty of other great BBQ spots that will do a better job on the brisket and not...
Read moreThe barbecue was very bland, dry, and not flavorful. There are so many better options in Houston. It was a waste of money. The price on the menu online is not accurate either. I give the food 2 stars. The guys working in the office were nice. The woman and man working in the kitchen today were rude. The entrance takes you right into the kitchen. Customers should not be walking through the kitchen. That’s unsanitary. I thought I came in through the wrong entrance, so the man working in the kitchen rudely told me where to go to place my order. The woman (with glasses) that came out to hand me my order had a very bad attitude. I thanked her, but she rolled her eyes and walked away. Mediocre food and bad service. I will not be returning...
Read moreThis place is an institution and testament to why everyone should protest METRO's halfcocked almost entirely useless expansions. Lenox BBQ will remind you of family reunions and the good times, the BBQ is a firm representation of classic Houston BBQ. The chicken is - in my opinion - their best feature but everything here is solid. Aside from the fact that the place was originally won in a dice game and they have catered events with populations rivalling cities - the coolest thing about Lenox is that they will cook what you kill so to speak. They will custom cook any amount of raw meat you bring them at a specific price per pound. Lenox BBQ is a truly essential Houston BBQ joint and the embodiment of what this...
